- NicoleVampire Diaries meets Gladiator - so good!Listen, Stacia Stark writes it? I will be reading it. I knew the moment I started reading this book it would suck me in like her other works and I was not wrong. So many elements of this story are ones that I like (and a few that aren't my fave but Stacia did it so well) - I actually had to pause to take in the story a few times due to the level of detail and world building. There are a good amount of supporting characters and some terminology that I had to absorb or occasionally look up, but it was overall really easy to understand and feel fully immersed despite my not knowing much about Roman history at all.
Imagine you are in a Roman world, but layer in vampires, magical creatures, violent trials, political intrigue, and romance - this is just a small portion of the complexity of We Who Will Die. Very different from Stacia Stark's other works, but just as enjoyable. I could absolutely see a movie created in this universe.
Arvelle as an FMC is strong willed and well written, capturing my interest from the moment I met her. Her back story layered throughout the story with flashbacks included was done well, small segments written to add depth rather than long flashbacks that took me out of the story as sometimes has happened to me in the past.
Tiernon was also well written in that he made me mad at him and fall in love with him at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of second chance romance, but young Tiernon and older Tiernon feel like two different characters with overlapping qualities that helped keep the storyline fresh.
The romance is a sloooooow burn, but definitely worth the read to get there. The battles had me on the edge of my seat, the twists and turns had me gasping out loud, and once I got about 60% through I could not put it down! I loved some of the supporting characters like Maeva and Leon, and even Rorrik kept me interested (and a little annoyed... and a little turned on... ).
I cannot believe the ending and that I read this before book 1 was officially published, and I have to wait for book 2?! I will need the next book as soon as Stacia's fingers can type and edit, because this book was GOOD.
I was also approved for the ALC and while I enjoyed the narration for the most part, I still preferred reading over listening. There were times that the MMCs voice was not my fave at first, but there's a plot point attached to that that I learned later, so it definitely grew on me. I ended up listening to about 50% and reading about 50% and did end up really enjoying the mix between the two.
Highly recommend for your next 2026 read! - NeliaAddictive, Brutal, and Beautifully WrittenI’m absolutely obsessed with this book. From the very first page, I was hooked—the pacing is electric, and the characters are so richly drawn that I couldn’t look away.
Each character carries deep emotional scars, and watching them navigate their healing journeys is both heartbreaking and beautiful. Tiernon is fiercely loyal and loves with a reckless intensity. His devotion to Arvelle is palpable—he’d sacrifice anything, even himself, to keep her safe. Arvelle is a bold, sassy force of nature. She’s spent her life caring for her brothers, and her growth throughout the story is powerful. She learns that strength isn’t just about doing it all alone—it’s about letting others in.
And then there’s Rorrik. He’s a walking contradiction. One moment I despise him, the next I understand him. He’s layered, morally gray, and clearly hiding something. He’s not the villain he pretends to be—and that complexity had me constantly second-guessing.
This story delivers everything: emotional depth, high-stakes action, jaw-dropping twists, and secrets that unravel with perfect tension. The banter and betrayal between characters kept me on edge, and the world-building? Absolutely stunning. Vampires, deadly trials, Greek mythology, and a rebellion that simmers beneath the surface—it’s all woven together seamlessly.
If you love stories that grip your heart, challenge your loyalties, and immerse you in a world of danger and desire, this one’s a must-read. - GurlyGrl4A must listen! All the reviewers who say this is Vampire Diaries with Gladiators are right. I can def see the vibes of both. I loved the Gladiator parts of this book and that the FMC is badass. She has her struggles, but battles through them for the people she loves. I very much enjoyed the plot as well. I found the twists to be predictable, but satisfying at the same time. That’s a rare quality.
???? the audio is duet narrated and the performance is top notch. Meg Sylvan and Troy Duran are fabulous. I recommend listening to this one.
