  • Bonkers--in the best way
This book was nuts. The premise grabbed me as my sister has experienced the same frustration of bidding and not winning offers on houses. The book actually started a little slow. It took a while to get going, but once it did--it was a wild ride. It was completely over-the-top and ridiculously far-fetched, but also so entertaining that I could not stop reading. We know from the beginning who the villain is and there really are no likable characters to root for--this is more like seeing a car crash and not being able to look away. As the book progresses and the main character's actions grow more unhinged, and cringe-worthy, I'm still racing to see what will happen next. And I will definitely look forward to what this author writes next.
  • A Unique Read
There was a lot of buzz surrounding this new release, so I decided to take a chance. From the beginning, I fit comfortably into Margo's head space. With a first-person narrative, I learned about her job, marriage, strengths, vulnerabilities and a pretty good sense of humor while she searched and found her perfect dream home.
I happily tagged along down this story's somewhat sketchy rabbit holes and then bumped into a big, "Wait, what?"
I applaud this author for making a bold move that can change the way a reader must rethink about what they just read. The pacing and character development were on point, the writing, flawless and just when you think you have it all figured out, trust me, you don't.
  • A bit ridiculous.
Not sure why this has such high ratings. It was ok.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After a year and a half of house hunting and losing eleven bidding wars, publicist Margo Miyake is at her breaking point. She and her husband, Ian, are still crammed into a tiny apartment, and every part of their future feels on pause: their marriage, their plans for a baby, even their sense of stability. So when she hears a whispered hint about a dream home in an ideal D.C.-area neighborhood that’s supposed to hit the market soon, something in her snaps. She has to have it — before anyone else even knows it exists.

What starts as a little “research” quickly spirals. Tracking the owners and slipping onto the property becomes just part of doing her homework… right? Margo keeps pushing the line, convincing herself each step is reasonable. The more she inserts herself into the homeowners’ world, the more determined — and unhinged — she becomes.

But just when she thinks she’s finally getting what she wants, a new obstacle knocks her off balance. Instead of backing down, she doubles down. Margo refuses to let anything or anyone stand between her and the life she believes she’s earned.

This book is completely unhinged. It’s a darkly funny and surprisingly relatable domestic thriller. None of the characters are especially likeable, but that’s what makes the story so fun. Margo is outrageous in the most jaw-dropping way. The lengths she goes to for her dream house are improbable and totally ill-advised, but undeniably entertaining.

Aside from the middle slowing a bit, the pacing is strong. The housing-market backdrop adds a fresh, modern feel, while the psychological tension keeps you hooked. In her debut novel, Kashino blends sharp writing, messy choices, real frustration, and plenty of suspense. The ending lands with some great twists.

If you love thrillers that blur the line between relatable and horrifying, this one’s for you.
  • Short & twisty!
This was a fun thriller. All the pieces to the puzzle fit nicely together at the finish line. It was a quick read and tied together with a bow at the end. I didn’t expect the twists and I didn’t expect to root for this main character, but I did.
  • Didn't like the ending
I actually didn't hate Margot the way other
reviewers did until close to the end. I wondered if she had borderline personality disordered. But I didn't feel like the book wrapped up very well. It lacked conclusion.
  • Entertaining, well written, unpredictable
This book kept my interest all the way through. The writing is excellent - fluid, natural, and easy to read. The characters are well-developed, enough that you get emotionally invested (which for me makes for fun reading). I’d recommend this book to pretty much anyone - it’s fun, it’s unpretentious, and nothing about it disappoints.
  • Ok audible book
Slow start, but ended with a bang
