To avoid whitewashed photos, make sure ISO is set to AUTO, rather than a super high manual setting. Start on "auto" then if that doesn't work look into the other modes like "Party" and "Night Portrait".
Explore the scene modes. The camera includes presets like portrait, night, and beach, which adjust settings automatically for different conditions.
Avoid using the digital zoom. Stick to the optical zoom to maintain image quality.
