I'm using it in a dedicated setup on a streaming camera (Sony A6400), with a teleprompter, and the lens is performing flawlessly. The image is clear and focus is quick, colors render very realistically, the front of the lens doesn't move when focus changes, so it works perfectly with the teleprompter, and vignetting is a non-issue. Don't hesitate to buy this lens. The price/value/performance ratio is excellent.

- William BoltonAn Amazing ValueThis is a wonderful lens and an incredible value for money. I say this as an amateur photographer for fifty plus years with over 75 lenses and experience with many more. I use this lens on a Sony a7II. It is very sharp and has great color and contrast. For me 40mm is the most versatile focal length, and I have several, including the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2, the Konica 40mm f1.8, and the Carl Zeiss Jena 40mm f4.5. This Viltrox AF 40 is a great addition to the collection.

Overall image quality is rather good, especially in the middle third of the frame, although it's not terrible at the edges either. It's quite sharp, actually. And chromatic aberration is remarkably well controlled. Flair, however, is moderately atrocious in certain shooting situations. I think a hood would help with this, but there's no direct way to mount a hood. Not having the option to manual focus is also kind of an issue for me, but at the price point I'm willing to overlook this.
AF works, but it is rather slow and very antiquated. In AF-S mode, it racks focus all the way to infinity (or back to minimum focus distance) and then tries to find the focal point. It is accurate most of the time (~80%) but does miss here and there. Interestingly, it works far better in my testing in AF-C mode, where it exhibits far less "hunting" and seems to be more responsive and accurate.
For $99 it's a total banger. Sure, you can't attach a filter or hood or manually focus, but your get a tiny lens that has AF and surprisingly good sharpness and color rendering. I could totally see this being a good street lens, especially if you post-crop a bit to get a more intimate FOV (although frankly I shoot a lot of street at 28mm). - B HSuper sharp wide open nift fiftyFantastic lens. It's an f/1.4 nifty fifty that is sharp as heck wide open. Tad on the heavy side for a 50mm, but I'll pay that tax to get outstanding optics for the price. AF works really well after an easy firmware update on my A7Riii. I've taken over 5000 shots with it so far... Many in very challenging lighting at a wedding reception... And i was very glad to have the f/1.4 aperture. Its also crisp with loads of contrast outdoors. Worth every penny.

The lens has a nice “heavy” metal body and smooth focal ring that feels great. The packaging surprisingly was great. The lens itself creates quite stunning pictures for its price. The clarity of it is better than expected and performs well. Has a usbc input for updating the firmware/software as your camera updates. Over all so far the lens was a great purchase. The AF on my Sony A7iv works flawlessly out of the box and is fast focus speed. Overall a good buy for a intro level good lens for your professional camera.
