- ShawnaHas renewed my faith in R&B!I actually had never heard of (Anderson.Pak is it?) before this came out. And what is the decimal point in his name for???
Anyway, being an old school fool, it's been a very long time since I've been inspired by any new music, especially in the so-called R&B genre.
I am a bassist, so when my cousin told me about this collaboration between Bruno Mars and Anderson and that Bootsy was involved, I immediately checked it out. And WOW. This is the real deal. It's so refreshing to see how the same old chords and sounds we've heard all our lives can be arranged in such a fresh and truly creative way. Mr. Mars is a freaking genius. Anderson is cool and charismatic to no end for sure, but it's Bruno's extraterrestrial studio finesse and pursuit of excellence that takes it to the stratosphere.
The vocals, the smooth harmonies, the tell it like is lyrics, the rhythm section and the pure funky roots that it's all steeped in make for a great refreshing experience. You've heard this kind of music before, but it still sounds new and innovative, when it's not. I think that's because it's actually original. They're coming from a place that feels honest. They knocked it out of the park on this one.

- Ted MerrittFantastic album and pressing!I’ve heard this album described as derivative and I couldn’t care less! It grooves from start to finish and nails the throwback vibe perfectly. The pressing is also fantastic! Flat, nearly silent throughout and dynamics and texture you just won’t get from a streamer of similar quality to your turntable. Master sounds just right on my system: full and deep, sparkling highs and life-like mids. Not the biggest soundstage, but very well located with decent separation. Fully recommended record! System for reference: Starling, X8, TubeBox DS3, SF Line 1, 2x Aegir, DWX Supreme, Micro3000.
- tmm1926Funky & Smooth!I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. My parents weren’t hippies, they were into Motown. I grew up listening to all the great R & B artists like Whitney Houston, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Baker, James Ingram, Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters and every Motown artist. Silk Sonic is music we need for today. They are “Fly”. The music is fun and smooth. I like every song on the album, that is unusual for me. Watching their videos, just adds to the fun. I have missed this music. Well done Silk Sonic! I look forward to your next album. Please don’t make us wait too long! I purchased the CD and I am currently waiting for the vinyl release at the end of August.
UPDATE: just got my vinyl of “An Evening with Silk Sonic” it sounds even better!!! A 10 out of 10!!
