RathertUltimate "Axis: Bold As Love" collection.Original mono and stereo album mixes, original mono mixes of "Burning Of Midnight Lamp" single and b-side, 38 outtakes and alternate versions on 4 CDs. Blu-ray with uncompressed original mono and stereo LP mixes plus brand new Dolby Atmos LP mix. And a 40 page booklet to top off this incredible box set. How about the same treatment for "Are You Experienced" as a coda for Hendrix collectors?

- Stories By SteveIt Could Have Been BetterI am a sucker for any new Hendrix release. The last ones were excellent. I was expecting a lot from this. You can find many Axis outtakes on the internet and there are other outtakes that could have been included. However, the recording quality is very good for what is here.
The Blu-ray disc is a big letdown. Not one word is written about the blu ray in the booklet. The advertising praises this mix to the sky - excuse me but it's not all that special. I noticed several small differences in the mix but overall not enough to devote an entire Blu-ray to it. There are no videos or photo galleries on the Blu-ray.
The 1967 Sweden concert is remastered a bit better than the original Stages mix - but it's not that great of a concert and it's only 31 min long. It's here because Jimi performed the concert on a break from recording Axis.
And, I wholeheartedly agree that the packaging is terrible. You can't take the cds out of the package multiple times without damaging them. I don't understand why this packaging is so poor. Like others have said, it's hard to get the cds out. Overall, I'm disappointed with this release. It could have been so much better. Still, I'll give it 3 Stars. - pens66Must haveGreat box set for one of the greatest albums ever made. The remaster is really great and the extra bonus tracks are really good.

- El Blanco ChocolattePackaging is absolute garbage and ruins the setOne star for the cheap packaging. It's garbage. The cds slide out and aren't secure. Couldn't find the Blu-ray and come to find out it's shoved in the first discs slot, in its own sleeve. If you take it out and put it elsewhere, the first disc just slides around in there. Really, really bad design that a child would know wouldn't work.
Now, the cover. Why? The original cover was iconic. All Hendrix covers are iconic. Why not just do something cool with that. No. Supposedly the cover was never how they originally envisioned it so it's now replaced by a drawing, in crayon, that Jimi did bad a child and some slip case. Hendrix was a great musician but not everything he did was high art. Especially a crayon drawing he did as a child. It just looks whack and cheap.
Starting to think this set was just an afterthought, especially the bluray. I glanced thru the book and can't find any details on the Atmos mix, who did it, etc. Id like info on this because this album and Experienced were recorded on 4 track and there needs to be some wizardry to convert that to surround.
It's a shame because the Ladyland box set was perfect. I was hoping they would be consistent but not looking like it. I know physical media is dying but labels shouldn't make those that do support it give up due to garbage packaging like this. I'm sure there will be a separate bluray release at some point so wait for that. Stream the rest. - Ramon 27Perfect box setBrilliant box set with a Perfect sounding Album for the ages!
- VincenzoNot what I had hoped for.I agree with others on the packaging, Really poor, I hate when they jam the cd into the side of the case, at least spring for a cd sleeve to protect the cd. I also couldn't find the Blu-ray. Almost a good thing too, since I was not impressed at all with the Dolby Atmos mix on here. As someone who has listened to this classic over the years, I had really high expectations that whoever did this would have a blast, Sadly, the mix is not that great. Obviously, Jimi experimented a lot in the studio, unfortunately, it doesn't translate or mix very well in Atmos. They should have hired Steven Wilson, since he at least would have got this to pop a bit. Very flat and very unimpressed. Listen to the King Crimson Recent releases, In The Wake of Posiden and Lizard, both are wonderful in Dolby Atmos. What a missed opportunity to make Axis even better than before. Even the bonus tracks offer nothing revelatory. Save your money.
