- Gail PrestwoodMarine Corps 250th Birthday CoinPerfect. This was a gift to a Veteran Marine. He loved it
- LAFBeautiful coin. Beautiful display. This is a very pretty coin & the presentation box it comes with makes it extra special. It is the perfect gift to give someone who is in the Marines or who is a Marine Veteran to thank them for their service & recognize them for their bravery.
I ordered this to give to a friend who is a Marine Veteran. She currently works for the government & has gone through the recent upheaval of colleagues losing jobs & the uncertainty about what is going to happen. It is the perfect gift, especially in light of the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps on October 26th of this year.
The company that makes these offers them for the Army 250th that occurred last month & the Navy 250th anniversary that will occur on October 13th. It would be so nice if they were also offered for the Air Force. The Air Force celebrated it's 75th anniversary on September 18, 2022, but in my opinion a commemorative coin that celebrates its 75th anniversary would still be appropriate & much appreciated by those who are in or veterans of the Air Force.
Honestly, though, I believe the price is a bit high for this coin. It is beautiful & it is well displayed, but I'm thinking of the giver here. If you had several family members, friends & acquaintances to whom you'd like to gift one of these coins, it could become prohibitively expensive very quickly. I would love to see the manufacturer offer these in a three pack, a five pack & the opportunity to mix & match coins, at a reduced price point so that they are more affordable. I'm certain that these are not too costly to manufacture & it would be a nice gesture for the manufacturer to make them more affordable. Another option would be to offer them & donate a portion to the service represented on the coin, along with a certificate indicating that.
I'd be more inclined to purchase one or more of these if a portion supported veterans of service, if they were offered in multi-packs or if the price was more affordable. I would also recommend that the manufacturer consider using a different decoration on each side, rather than the same thing on both sides. - Cliff A.Challenge coinIt was a gift for a friend and he liked it.
- Lynn MarieHappy veteranMy husband proudly served in the Marine Corps , so he was very happy to receive this as a gift.
- DocdraNot bad, but could've been better...When you remove the packaging, you see a nice looking case, which sort of gets you excited. You then open the case and see a coin-like object in a hard plastic case, but you notice something...
Okay, I have quite a few military challenge coins, as a veteran and as a former military contractor. All of the ones I currently have are very textured, or embossed, surfaces - this one, while not completely flat, at first glance looks flat. It isn't flat, but with the coloring and what appears to be an attempt to use the coloring to impart a 3D-like look, it actually sort of looks flat.
It also happens to be one of the lightest challenge coins I've ever seen, but that isn't that big of a deal.
To be fair, the artwork on the coin isn't bad at all, and it includes everything a former Marine would want to see on it - with the exception of the missing Amtrac. Not sure how they added a Humvee, instead of the Amtrac, completely ignoring the amphibious nature of the Corps... Sigh, no one is perfect.
The coin also had a slight nick on the edge, as if someone dropped it on the edge of a table while packing it up. If you want to use it as a presentation/display piece, you might not like that. If you use it as an actual challenge coin, it will probably be dinged up fairly quickly anyway. - Ed A.Go NavyNice gift box. Added to my collection
