- Donny EasterDell PowerEdge R730XD ServerSo far so good:
Pros:
Fast delivery even with the free shipping arrived 3 days before the projected delivery.
Very very well packaged in the proper sized box with good packing.
Server was very clean both inside and out its in very good shape.
It did come with the 12 caddies it promised and as a plus it also came with 12 blanks which was a good surprise. It came with everything the description said would come with it.
Came right on with no issues and has ran perfect since i first started it.
Cons:
I'm new to servers so this might be normal but it is louder then i thought it would be. I have a PowerEdge R620 server as well and its much quiter then the new one. Not a big deal its not overly loud as to be annoying just louder then i had hoped.
While it did come with the 12 caddies they do seem to be in fairly poor shape as far as how tight they are they work but the arms on the caddies seem very loose i have a few extra that i had bought for my other server and they seem in much better shape. Worse part is that they did not include screws for the hard drives for the caddies this makes them all but worthless you have to have very specific screws for the caddies luckily i had some extra that came with the caddies i had bought for the other server so i had enough extra to put at least 2 screws per hard drive which seems to be working fine.
All in all I'm very happy with the server the few cons are far outweighed by the pros. It would have been nice to get screws for the caddies but that's pretty much my only complaint. - RobNJaneAll Advertised Items Not IncludedI just received my server and am building it out as I compose this.
The most glaring issue was the lack of any trays or drive bay blanking panels. Dell is adamant about NOT operating the server with any open front drive bays. If my drives had not come with trays, and I was not adding 24 of them I would have been stuck until I could find blanking panels. Not what I would want to be doing over a holiday weekend that I had allocated for this project.
On the plus side the server is immaculate, even though the box had a tough go of it. Amazon Shipping waylaid the server a few days, lost in transit. It should have been here 3 days ago.
The server came with a Dell PERC H730P RAID controller, the top of the line for this model server. Battery backed 2 Gi cache. +++
The detailed description indicated 128 Gi DDR4 RAM with 8 open slots. The math would indicate 16 8 Gi modules installed. It came with 4 X 32 Gi Cisco UCS DDR4 DIMMs. +++ These are readily available on Amazon for 38 bucks a piece. Adding additional RAM is easy-peasy. +++
Initial tests of the hardware are good. As you may be aware initializing a 24 drive RAID 6 array will take a while. I will update this if any issues arise.
The lack of trays and/or blanking panels is the only reason this is not a 5 star. Amazon Shipping losing the server is not the fault of the vendor. :( - Kwesi E.Great Product and Great ValueThis was my very first server and after a couple of bad purchases on Amazon these guys came through, server looks great and has worked great so far, came with caddies and screws which was great and to my surprise i had IDRAC 8 enterprise. Definitely recommend
- Hermann MolinaCasi todo bienSe recibio el equipo muy buerno pero faltaron los protectoires de slot de discos
- Shawn MickItem arrived not as describedThe title says that it includes 12x drive trays but this is incorrect as others have mentioned. It came completely empty.
- RahulMissing traysListing mentions 12 trays. Server I received came with none.
- J.D.Great Value - Responsive SellerServer was in perfect condition. Despite a listing title typo, the seller worked quickly to resolve. Would buy from this seller again.
- CustomerGreat server, but missing some pieces.Server came as pictured with the correct specs, except for the lack of drive caddies. Noticed others' reviews warning so, and I planned accordingly. I'd advise the same. Great piece of tech otherwise. Hardly even a speck of dust. Can't beat it for the price, caddies or not.
