- r. BlondelRefrigerate Overnight After Hydration for Great TextureI made the soup recipe listed on the packaging. I used the Better Than Bouillon vegetable base, veggies, pasta, and unflavored chunks. The soup was delicious and the now flavored chunks were also delicious but very spongy, I thought Meh and put it in the refrigerator. The next day I tried the soup again and it seemed that the proteins has set up overnight and had a great texture. I was impressed with the chunks and intend on trying different recipes. I am not a vegetarian, so I will also try some meat flavorings as well. I intend on hydrating different flavors and keeping them in the refrigerator as indicated on the product packaging. Storage of this dried product is very convenient.
- dkGreatFirst time working with TVP and these worked great and rehydrated to the perfect, expected texture. Tasted great and easy to prep. I also liked the small size of the pieces.
- DavidGood texture but unpleasant aftetasteThese hydrate in hot water nicely and sautee well, but are a bit too small. My main grievance is the aftertaste. If you don't soak these in some very flavorful sauce, then the taste is horrible. Bitter-off notes, offensive weird nutty flavor. You have to tell yourself "this must be healthy for me, right?"
- Southern SnowkittyThese are great.Love these. So versatile. Not sure about leaving in stew over night they seem a bit soggy but any other recipe they are wonderful. Flavor them any flavor as they come ready for you to add what ever, for meat feel without feeling bad. I have breaded them for popcorn chicken, stew, beef flavor bouillon for stroganoff, bbq sauce... Veggie for 30 years and so eaten alot of stuff. Stocking these on subscribe for sure.
- dart2Whoa!I do my best as a vegetarian but this type of product at first is just unbelievably gross.
Rubbery texture.....
Which got a little better with spices and trying to become use to it. But in the end I had to toss it and scratch it off my list! ????
1 star because I had to pick one. - SNSOKTerrific meat substitute if prepared correctlyI love this product. Prepared correctly it is an excellent meat substitute that we use here on a regular basis. The secret is to rehydrate with a flavorful broth with added onion and garlic powder, then press out any excess water. Stir in a tablespoon of olive oil, then sauté in a lightly oiled pan until it’s crispy on the edges. Season with a bit of smoked salt and you have yourself a tasty vegetarian meal.
- Daniel B. LyleGreat high protein, low sugar crunchy treatI bought these thinking they'd be a low-fat, no saturated fat, no cholesterol meat substitute. I soaked some chunks in low fat gravy and heated them according to instructions. They were disgusting! I spit them out and immediately threw the bag in the trash. Perhaps I did something wrong, but they tasted just awful, both in texture and flavor. But then, not wanting to waste my purchase, I dug the bag back out of the trash and put it into my cache of dried last-chance disaster food. However, upon searching for high protein low sugar treats with no cholesterol and no saturated fat, and finding NONE...I remember my discarded bag. Opening it up again, I popped one of the dried chunks into my mouth. Very crunchy and chewy! Very satisfying! A tangy, nutty taste. Wow! An inexpensive, crunchy treat both low-fat and low-carb friendly! From disgusting to absolute dynamite! Bravo!
- DanishI'm on the fence with the textureThe flavor is ok, yummy if spiced up with garlic, cummin, paprika and salt. The texture reminds me of "when I was a very young child I don't know why but I'd suck on my blanket for comfort " cloth.
