- prodigylandSimple, accurate, does the job wellThis one is cheaper than the Klein Tools pen. It comes with led indicators and a flash light. I was easily able to determined which wire is the Line (pictured) and which one is the load (less voltage coming through). Neutral & Ground are more universal in their labeling. No need for any fancy tool when this one gets the job done.

- bmw1100rtshoulda bought this one firstPros: For an inexpensive tester, this is a good one. I previously bought a different one - it was not dual voltage and did not have auto-shutoff. This one is easy to use, dual range, sensitive, rugged, and has built-in LED flashlight near the probe. Cons: this is a bit bulky, fits in shirt pocket, but is a bit bigger than a Klein. Also, I think it uses AAA batteries, verify that.

If you’re not a trained electrician, don’t even take a cover plate off of an outlet or wall switch without turning off the breaker, then using this tool to be sure there is no electricity behind the plate. Don’t play with electricity. This device lets you put it just close to wires or an outlet and see if it’s hot or not. It will light up and beep if there’s electricity on a wire before you touch it. This one works well and the price is right.
- Nom De PlumeWouldn't Turn On At FirstSeems to work and comes with warning not to rely on it entirely. I tend to agree. It would turn on when I put in AB alkaline batteries. Then I tried rechargeable ones and it still would not turn on. I was ready to turn it back when I notice two batteries on the table. Must have fell out unnoticed. I put in the non-alkaline batteries (no less) and it turned on instantly even though the manufacturer says to use alkaline batteries which did not work. I then took out the plain mercury batteries and reinstalled the AB alkaline and it turns on and seems to work. Jiggle around the sensor to make sure it captures the loose AC radiation and so far it works in capturing them showing the wire or connection is HOT.

- TheallmattyElectric tester. Dislikes rechargeables.Tests well. Backlit. Not very easy to read as an older person. It beeps and flashed so that helps. Tested several times to be sure it functioned properly before putting my life on the line. This thing will not work with any of my rechargeable batteries though. I tried at least 20. 3-4 different brands. Nada. Would not turn on. Ran fine on cheap alkalines.
