- Valued PersonWorks greatEasy to set up and looks good on my drone with my custom mount.
- SamuelBalrajDrone FlyerResonable price RID for Drones.
Small and easy to you. - G SaundersI'm delighted with this RID unit!I was on a waiting list for two other, more expensive, RID units for a month or more when Amazon recommended this one by Holy Stone. It's easy to set up with a Bluetooth phone, worked for me the first time, and has showed up on OpenDroneID, AirSentinel, and DropneScanner on my smartphone.
A recreational flyer can use one of these for all the drones in their fleet that need RID. A commercial flyer needs on RID for each drone. It's very light weight, something like 12 grams, and attaches with velcro.
My Air2 and now my Mavic 2s are 'native' RID compliant. I'll use these Holy Stone RID units for my Typhoons and Inspires that are not RID compliant.
The only problem I had was that one of the QR Codes in the printed material led to the wrong website to download the Android app to configure the unit. I used Holy Stone's Chat feature on their website to contact them. A very helpful tech answered quickly and advised me to use the one on-line, which I did.
This whole experience helps convince me that Holy Stone is better than the ordinary 'toy drone' manufacturer... - DaleGood Bargain.Works well. Light weight and does not affect the steadiness of the drone.
- peter e woodward 2Good to haveWorks for my old Mavic Drone
- Jose SilvaFAA complianceVery nice and easy to use, and complies with FAA
- Jason BaldwinMost economical Remote ID broadcast module to dateEver since the announcement of Remote ID and the implementation of it, I have been keeping tabs on any (affordable) available broadcast module for my Autel EVO 2 V1 that Autel refused to make compliant via firmware update. The FAA seemed to think that companies wouldn't capitalize on the need for add on broadcast modules and portrayed that they would be affordable for all well under $100. They were wrong as greed dictates a business' angle of sales. All Remote ID broadcast modules I was finding (which were only a few) were going anywhere from $150 - $329. With the fast approaching March 16th 2024 deadline, I weighed my options of biting the bullet on an expensive add on option or moving on to an upgraded model with standard Remote ID built in.
Low and behold, the other week I did another Google search on Remote ID broadcast modules and this one from Holy Stone popped up... for $89! Seeming too good to be true I did a little digging and visited the FAA Remote ID compliance list. Sure enough this module was indeed listed as compliant. Without further hesitation I submitted my order and waited for it to arrive.
The set up for the initial writing of the identity was very fast and easy. The app was easy to find and install on my Android device. Within minutes I had my broadcast module affixed to my EVO 2, Remote ID registered with the FAA, and I was flying in compliance with over 2 months to spare until the deadline. I am very pleased with this module and recommend it to everyone looking for a more affordable compliant device. I hope Holy Stone doesn't give in to greed and keeps their module at this price point. - J. W. PearceBLE Connection Attempt Kills TransmissionsI am an RF design engineer. I have a full RF design laboratory and have designed BLE devices. I received the RID unit this morning and immediately charged the battery until it showed full. I then downloaded the Drone Go2 app and connected to the RID. It said that a firmware update was needed so I allowed that. It appeared to be successful and the app told me to reset the RID, which I did.
On the next connection to the app it said that a firmware update was needed, etc. And again... So it seemed to be in a continuous "update needed" loop so the next time I selected "cancel". It then allowed me to enter my setup information and told me to reset the unit.
After doing that I go the expected fast blink followed a few seconds later by a slowly blinking green LED.
I then tried to reconnect with the Drone 2Go app with no success -- no response at all.
As a BLE engineer I have several BLE diagnostic apps on my phone. Anyone can load them off of the Apple app store for free - search for Nordic Semiconductor, Renasas Semiconductor, of Cypress Semiconductor. At any rate running any one of these apps shows the presence of the RID device BUT here is where there is a major problem:
Trying to connect to the RID device using any of these free apps SHUTS THE RID OFF!!!! Both LEDs turn off and the broadcast ceases. I inspected the over-the-air signal using a spectrum analyzer and there was NO output after a simple BLE connection attempt.
This is a pretty major firmware problem, to say the least.
