- Lou VaughtVery enjoyable bookThis is a comforting story and takes you back to a simpler time. The characters are well rounded and relatable. The author uses the story to tell her tale. I liked that descriptions were minimal and focused instead on the lives of the characters and their interactions with one another.

Buckeye
by Patrick Ryan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Set in the quiet town of Bonhomie, Ohio, Buckeye tells the story of the Jenkins and Salt families, whose lives become forever intertwined after an innocent kiss celebrating the Allied victory in Europe during World War II. The novel follows them over four decades, weaving together love, loss, small-town gossip, and the secrets that shape us. From WWII to the Vietnam era, Ryan shows how choices ripple through generations and how forgiveness often arrives in unexpected ways.
Ryan’s writing blends humor with heartbreak. One page you’re smiling at the quirks of small-town life, and the next you’re hit with a line that makes your chest ache. The characters feel so real, like neighbors you’ve known forever, and the way their lives overlap makes the story impossible to put down. It’s a powerful novel about how quiet lives are shaped by major moments in history, and a tender look at the search for love, connection, and forgiveness. I couldn’t put it down, and I don’t think you will either. - Hurricane Readerwonderful book. wonderful storyWell drawn sympathetic characters, sad but realistic storyline. Very well written. - KTWHAT TO READ NEXTThis is one of those that leaves me wondering what to follow it with. LOVED this book. SO many memorable characters that will linger after the last page. Great to read a good solid story that constantly moves fwd. No jumping between times or tense. Certainly going to give Patrick Ryan's other books a shot. Happy I took a chance and ordered this based on the quick summary.
