- TJListen for the Lie - Is there a better title?!Listen for the Lie was a truly great novel and such a well-written story. From the very first chapter, I was pulled in and could not stop turning the pages. The mix of suspense, mystery, and sharp writing made it the perfect kind of book to curl up with on a cool fall night.
One of the things I loved most was how it constantly kept me guessing. I found myself going back and forth over and over again about whether Lucy had really done it or not. Just when I thought I had it figured out, a new layer of doubt would creep in, and that tension made the story even more addictive. It has exactly the kind of eerie, unsettled vibe that makes it an ideal spooky season read.
I really, really enjoyed this book and will absolutely be picking up more of Amy Tintera’s works in the future. If you want a twisty, atmospheric thriller that keeps you on edge, Listen for the Lie is one to add to your fall TBR right away. - skrapcrazyreadsSmall-town tragedy. Big suspense thriller. After reading many glowing reviews for this book, I could hardly wait to make time to sit down with this read. I initially thought I would listen to the audiobook, but I had some free time, so I reached for my Kindle instead. After seeing others mention how great the audiobook is, I am kicking myself for not sticking with my original plan. The FOMO is real. ????
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so, too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
This tells the story of two small-town girls who connected after graduating and became the best of friends. 5 years earlier, a tragedy happened leaving one friend dead and the other under a huge cloud of suspicion and now, a new podcast covering the murder comes to town threatening to upend many lives in its quest to uncover the truth.
The format of alternating chapters between Lucy’s perspective and that of the podcast transcripts made for a captivating, fast-paced, easy read.
Lucy was a compelling character with her dry humor and sharp, sarcastic wit. She was irritatingly interesting at times—the type of character who keeps you engaged and wanting to know more.
Ben Owens was easily relatable and precisely what you would expect from a seasoned crime podcaster.
Grandma Beverly, what can I say? She is a significant driver in the story and presents in such a way that left me feeling like I could drive right up my road to her house and take a seat at her table.
The ending was not easily predictable, and everything was wrapped up with a nice, not-so-tidy bow. Overall, this was a twisty, bendy read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and its story and characters will stay with me for quite a while.
- Nikki davisGreat thrillerSuch a good read! I love the way the story is set up from different points of views. I guessed all the way to the end and was still wrong! I gasped at who the killer was, really on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to another one from Amy
- Amazon CustomerInterestingGood read, or listen. Better as an audible for sure. Had some good twists and turns
- ShelbyGood readThe ending was great and enjoyable. This was a very quick and easy read. Good story line. I felt like it was missing something though that could've made it more interesting.
- Darren M. ReedExciting page turner that kept me guessing the entire novelI really like this novel. This is a fast, page turning story that will keep you guessing until the last few chapters. The protagonist (Lucy) is very likable. In a way the story is narrated in a way similar to Dexter in that Lucy has a morbid sense of humor.
This story focuses around a young woman who was with her best friend when the friend was found murdered in the woods. Lucy has no memory of the night, and there’s no evidence that she did anything wrong so she was never charged, however, public opinion Always been that she murdered her friend. As a result, Lucy moves away from town only to return after her grandma lures her back for her birthday party. Unbeknownst to Lucy, a popular podcast or is in town to meet with Lucy to get her account of what happened to her friend.
The story is told by alternating between Lucy in the present and the podcast interviews. I personally really enjoyed this type of storytelling as it gives a lot of background and also teases you with a few possible suspects.
I feel I am usually pretty good about figuring out who did it. However, in this case, I had suspected a few different people, at one point, even wondering if Lucy actually did it, and at another if possibly she had a psychological break and imagined things, if she was STILL imagining things…
I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys thrillers, suspense, psychological suspense, mysteries. Etc… It is just an all around fun read. - WarrenGood read.Well written and good story. Fast paced. Really interesting characters. Story kept me guessing until the end. Very much worthwhile.
- Casey L. PettittWho Has Done This?Let me start by saying: if you’re torn between reading and listening to this one, go with the audiobook. I did both, and I’m so glad I did — January LaVoy and Will Damron are fantastic, especially in the podcast segments, which feel like a true-crime show come to life.
This is a “who has done this” (thanks a lot, Brooklyn-99) that keeps you guessing right up to the final pages. I don’t want to spoil a thing, but I will say that Lucy is one of the most compelling characters I’ve read in a mystery lately — witty, sarcastic, and just unsettling enough to keep you wondering. The supporting cast? Every single one of them feels like they could have done it — or might have.
Not everything landed perfectly for me (including the killer reveal), but honestly? I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The pacing is sharp, the structure clever, and the tone hits that sweet spot between dark and playful.
I gave this 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you’re in the mood for a fast, twisty mystery that you might finish in a single sitting—or a long walk with your earbuds in — this one’s worth the buzz.
