  • Compelling and compassionate must-read novel!
I knew by Chapter 7 that this book was a masterpiece - and further reading only confirmed that opinion.
Great concept; great story-telling; fastidious writing and attention to detail; compassionate treatment of the characters; and absolute brilliance in dropping nuggets of disclosure and fact along the way that we, the readers, think we are smart in picking up. About a quarter of the way through, I did what I rarely do: I bought the hardcover version. (I had earlier bought the paperback.)
    Easily 5 stars.
  • Heartwarming Lovely Story
A friend recommended reading this book as it moved her. She said it was “delightful and refreshing “for a change. As an artist myself, I was touched by the kindness and the thoughtful, thought provoking words the author chose to describe and relate, some of which I had to write down to remember. . . “The face of Heaven “, “beneficiaries of his thoughtfulness”, and what most describes me as an artist, “ aesthetic sensitivity” I’ve often been in awe of visual splendors and spent many hours recreating the beauty I see. The author, Allen Levi has created a masterpiece in his story of a beautiful soul, one we rarely see and are certainly capable of. Thank you for touching my soul and reminding me that Heaven is among us.
  • Amazing Read
This book was absolutely heartfelt. Theo of Golden is beautifully written, emotionally rich, and deeply moving. Theo’s story felt real and tinder, and I connected with it more than I expected. It’s the kind of books that makes you pause, reflect, and feel grateful for meaningful stories. I found myself reflecting on life, connection, and the small moments that shape us.
  • inspiring story
Goodness it’s easy to fall in love with Theo and his friends in Golden! The characters and story are truly inspiring, charming, and real, and it was an easy read. One plot twist I saw coming, the other I did not. Theo’s end felt too abrupt and shocking (I was briefly mad at the people who recommended the book to me - how could they?! But after continuing on, I moved from anger to acceptance - ha! and went back to being really glad they had recommended it). It left me wanting more at the end - like the author decided story time was over and wrapped things up very nicely but a little hastily IMO. Overall, it was a great book that I will tell me friends about, and more importantly, I’m going to think about the lessons taught by Theo and try to learn from my own bestowal.
  • This is Now on My Best Books Ever List
I am a reader. My house is full of books and this book is now on my list of "best ever books!". The reviews are correct, it is a must read and I have already recommended it to family and friends. It has encouraged me to be a "Theo" and you will know more about what that means when you finish reading the book. I probably will re-read this book from time to time. While reading this I felt like I knew and became friends with the characters. I could see myself strolling along Broadway, having coffee at The Chalice owned by Shep and Addie, viewing the portraits that were displayed there and were done by Asher, shopping at Tony's bookstore, becoming friends with Ellen, listening to Basil play the guitar, attending Simone's cello concert, admiring Theo's apartment at The Ponder House, attending church at St. James, and getting to know the town of Golden. As a matter of fact by the end of the book I wanted to move to Golden. The book contains many of the things I love including books and bookstores, art, music, small towns, gardens, walking, coffee shops, street musicians, churches, good food, friends, angels, and the power of faith, grace, and love. The author, Allen Levi is a gifted writer and I hope this book becomes a movie, and that there is a sequel to Theo of Golden: A Novel.
  • A Heartwarming Gem That Inspires Generosity and Kindness
Theo of Golden is a beautifully written, uplifting novel. An elderly stranger, Theo, arrives in the small southern town of Golden, Georgia. Drawn to the 92 pencil portraits hanging in a local coffee shop, he purchases them one by one and personally returns each to its subject—sparking meaningful conversations, deep friendships, and subtle life changes of the recipients along the way. The mystery of Theo's past and why he chose Golden adds quiet intrigue. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a feel-good read that lingers long after the last page.
  • Kindness Matters
A delightful and gentle story about actively spreading kindness and in doing so, developing unexpected but meaningful and cherished friendships. Highest recommendations for this gem of a novel. :)
  • Beautiful story
I love this book! Each story of each bestowal was so thoughtful! I will admit that it is a little slow paced for most of the book, but it is so beautiful that I didn’t mind. The ending really picks up and is so engaging and heartwarming. I loved it! Really really loved it!
