Top reviews from the United States

  • Great movie
Great movie. High quality. Value for the money
  • Love the movie
Dvd works perfectly and arrived fairly quick
  • Very good movie!
Can’t wait to get the way of fire.
  • Spectacular, topnotch, enhancing-3D
For all of us with large 3D blu-ray collections and/or home 3D blu-ray glasses, players, projectors, or TVs (or any newbies thereby)---this 3D blu-ray is a rare and magnificent gift! Hopefully it sells as it deserves to do so (extremely well) and other big directors follow James Cameron's sterling example: providing a top-quality movie in not just 4K but home-3D as well. Although 4K provides greater detail for larger TV's and projection screens over HD, 3D provides not just quantitative improvement but QUALITATIVE enhancement: a whole new dimension is added! In other words, while 4K gives a great simulation in providing a crisp, flat picture of 3-dimensional reality, 3D blu-ray provides the actual thing! It's a different, fully immersive experience.

As to the quality of this 3D blu-ray, it's topnotch. There's fine detail in the additive 2K rendering, crisp resolution between items, excellent depth of field into the screen, and appropriate protrusions out of the screen into the room, surrounding the viewers. Seen projected in 3D onto a large wall screen (mine being 120"), viewed up close, with full surround sound turned up, it's like being INSIDE the movie (not just watching it from outside, as is the case with HD or UHD).

As to the enhancement value to the movie's plot: Cameron moves us from a rich jungle environment into a lavish island/ocean scenario. The 3D rendering of waves, seashores, into the ocean and beneath reaches out and sucks you in! As in Cameron's iconic Titanic, the alien aspects (to us air-breathing mammals) of this watery world are nothing less than stunning. This goes double for the mechanical, battle scenes. Truly, being inundated by waves pouring out of the screen or surrounded by brilliantly colored alien sea-critters or ducking from zooming submersibles is alone worthy purchasing the 3D blu-ray!

As to my personal experience, my advice to people who have the necessary equipment is to purchase both the 4K disc and the 3D blu-ray version. This wondrous, uniquely beautiful Sci-Fi epic saga should be savored in all its renderings, from the 3-dimensional to the most detailed. The first thing I did before viewing the 3D of "The Way of Water" was to go back and watch yet again my 3D of the first Avatar. It was even better than I remembered! I'm sure I'll do the same with this first sequel, watching it several times over the coming years.

I pre-ordered the 3D and 4K versions the very first day they were available and eagerly awaited their arrival for months, then viewed them immediately. I was not disappointed. The storyline of course has similar elements to the first blockbuster, plus continuing characters. But Cameron and his collaborators kick it up to a whole new level. Just as 3D adds a whole new dimension to the experience, "The Way of Water" adds a whole new reality---a whole new and different world!---to the original. Further underlying the spectacle and special effects is the family aspects, which greatly enriches and broadens the emotional impact from the first movie. I can't wait for the next installment to see what new, amazing things Cameron adds on top of the existing, rich brew! To all those involved in any way in making and distributing this incredible 3D Sci-Fi high-adventure I don't just say "thank you," I say BRAVO!
  • Dazzling eye candy.
Visually spectacular... never seen anything like it, even the first movie. Story was good, a little long, and [almost] as good as the original. Fantastic eye candy and a decent story... would definitely recommend.
  • Excellent 3D presentation but lacks top-grade audio track as omitted
Back when I tried to order this movie on 3D Blu-ray edition, it was so backordered I had to wait. My guess is Disney company underestimated the higher than usual demand fpr 3D Blu-ray edition to issue further pressings after they sold out the first pressing batch that led to inflated price by unscrupulous and greedy scalpers elsewhere.

This said, the 3-D presentation is fantastic. I saw the movie at theatres in 3D format (first run within a month) three times with different presentation each time -- one with open caption, one in IMAX and one with D-BOX.

The movie is so long that 3-D Bluray had to be split into two discs, and unfortunately had to omit Dolby Atmos which is available in 4K UHD edition. The downside with these standard, 4K and 3D editions is that with the family friendly audio track, it still doesn't omit the profanity in English SDH, oddly. Beware of the F-bomb in English SDH during the family friendly track play.

The best-selling status of this movie with demand for 3D format for home video, hopefully, should compel the studios to rethink their attitude overlooking 3D movies for Blu-ray distribution, even for online streaming. There is a demand for 3D, always, as long as there are 3D-formatted movie fans like me.
  • Magnificent
After watching a few minutes it's easy to get lost in this Opus Magnus! --The CGI is nearly perfect, so much so Everything and Everyone looks so effortlessly REAL!

The storyline starts off a bit slow, to give us a chance to find out Who's Who on the magical world of Pandora this time around--including that the human Machoman soldier who was defeated in the original "Avatar" has been physically turned into a Na'vi--as well as his well-trained squad of hunter-killers! --And we learn "our" Na'vi family has been getting along "swell": we find out the daughter is able to commune with Pandoran nature like no other Na'vi --and the younger son can do the same with animals--particularly with a highly intelligent giant Pandoran "whale" which he saves and which later saves him!

Anyway, the movie really picks up and moves along faster and faster. Our Na'vi family has to flee their idyllic life when Machoman and his squad of soldier-killers finds them and kills-off their tribe as they barely manage to escape! --Our family travels far and joins in with a different tribe which lives on land and in the water, but Machoman soon enough finds them and they too get targeted for extinction! (Needless to say, Humans are the REAL Bad Guys of the Universe, killing and despoiling Everything that gets in their way!)

--But first we are taken on a wild human hunt for those "whales"--and watch a slaughter of them, all to get a liquid the whales make to sustain their intelligence--which also stops aging in humans -- making it the most valuable substance in the universe--for humans! (We REALLY feel sorry fo those whales and hate the hunters! Rightly so!)

The storyline moves ever faster and faster, ending in a GREAT fight for survival between humans and Na'vi -- even setting the stage for an "Avatar III"!
    --CAN'T WAIT!!!

(The one drawback I found was the NEW disc kept on stopping and-starting -- but I was able to clean it--semi-microscopic "specs" on the shiny side!--and it played great then! --I've been finding that problem too often on new discs. . . .)
