- Carl D. BradleyGet past the first 10 minutes! Trust me! NO SPOILER reviewThis film is fantastic. Truly a joy to watch. It is a brilliant suspense-thriller-whodunit-buddy cop flic all rolled into one.
I have become very jaded with new productions over the last few years. I often find biased political slop spewed at me disguised as entertainment. THAT is why my review is titled as it is. The opening few minutes almost had me bail, anticipating a 100 minute lecture. This is NOT that.
Acting of Mains: Excellent. Superb delivery of dialogue, emotion, and depth.
Acting of Supports: Very good. This movie is really focused on two characters, so the rest have little to work with, but deliver quite well.
Plot: Very good. Some twists may be viewed as not adequately hinted earlier, but none take away from the excitement of following to the conclusion.
Sets: Very good. Small scope is the only reason I don't say excellent. The concept design is really intriguing and works very well.
Score: I'll say Good? I love Ramin Djawadi, but the styling of this film didn't really rely on a score too overtly. Perhaps in that context, it WAS brilliant, because not once did I feel distracted by sound design or score. So subtlety wins the day.
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: Without spoilers; This is a really original take on an oft told story relating to technology, 'security', liberties, and human decency. It finds a way to address long held concerns, potential pitfalls, possible solutions, and human emotional importance as a collection of facets of the world we are quickly becoming. It does so with frightful analysis and grand compassion.
I'll finish with this; WATCH this film. If you think I steered you wrong, please come back to this review and say why.
I imagine I have little to fear of being outed as wrong. - TyrneeInteresting yet scary story lineI honestly thought this movie was good right from the start. It pulled me in pretty quickly and didn’t really let up. There was a lot going on, but in a good way, plenty of action and enough mystery to keep me interested the whole time.
I liked how the story unfolded without feeling slow or dragging. It kept me watching, which says a lot because I lose interest fast if something gets boring.
That being said, even though I really liked it, I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but that’s just how I am with a lot of movies. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t good.
I’d definitely recommend it, though. It’s worth watching, especially if you like action and mystery mixed together. - T. A. ClarkGood enough popcorn movie. It's not exactly a good movie, but it's a good enough popcorn movie if you don't think too hard about what message it's trying to convey. Turn your brain off and it's enjoyable.
If you're the kind of person who can't do that, it's ok. I'm not exactly good at that, either. The movie doesn't handle an incredibly dystopian idea well enough for it to seem as dystopian and horrifying as it should. It takes the concept of using AI to judge complex issues and cases, throws in the possibility of manipulation and outright error, and winds up somewhere around "well, people aren't perfect, either." I know a lot of the reviews here are saying it's thought provoking, but it's not; this film is more of a "what comes after the worst case scenario" kind of scenario, and it never really acknowledges how messed up its premise actually is.
It's not really possible to explain more than that without spoiling the end of the movie, so... if that's a dealbreaker for you, skip it. If it's not, accept that it's going to be kinda dumb then give your brain the night off and pop some popcorn and take it for what it is. The cast is good for the budget, you've probably seen dumber, and if you watch made for streaming movies like Netflix's originals (who doesn't, right) you've definitely seen worse. - Sears-Farm-CatGood Movie...Fast Paced!!To those who gave this a bad review.....I'm sure you bring joy to every room you exit!! This movie was exciting and fun. It jumped right into the story with no boring pretext and at times had me on the edge of my seat. A unique, interesting story line and fast-paced. Chris Pratt was super (as usual), while deducing the clues for his defense. You won't be disappointed!
- DanielFacts or TruthChris Pratt does an excellent job. Mercy is an odd name for an AI Judge, odd in the creepy way. Decent story. I enjoyed the movie overall. Everyone did an excellent job. Imagine waking up and your life is on trial, having no memory of the previous 24hrs. It was certainly a perilous story. Desperate people trying to survive in the harsh rigidity of a dark world. Facts or truth, are they not the same thing or is there more? In this dystopian story, an AI judge has what they think are all of the facts of a case and make a determination and judgement on it. No retrial, appeal, or delays. 90-minutes until the end. Another perspective may be, don't trust everything online at once, online information is only what is programmed or placed there by someone else. In many cases, it doesn't tell the whole truth. It's the same for college degrees, and the media. None of them tell the whole truth, so much is lost, truth, the whole truth, is hidden, and must be searched for, diligently.
- ErikVery good film worth a watch.Something different that had me engaged throughout the movie. Been a while since I've seen a movie where I didn't pause to take break for any reason. Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson did well in this movie. Obviously this is dystopian near future urban sci-fi, but felt real and hits home a little about what our actual future might be like in policing efforts or in our court rooms. Definitely worth a watch.
