- Chris LunstrumPaul's Boutique on vinyl!!!This is my favorite Beastie Boys album!! I didn't know it was available on vinyl until I saw a FB post about it. I can't vouch for the sound quality personally as I haven't opened it yet but I did read that it has great sound quality.
- AmericonsumerIsn't it cool...when you re-buy an item (remasters, omnibus, collector's edition, etc.), and it is better than the original?
That's how this re-release of Paul's Boutique is. The original was never loud enough on anything I played it through. Now, the re-mastered version is quite loud enough, and it friggin' rocks. There's not all that excess ephemera included, simply shrouding the same ol' CD that was originally released. The packaging is very sparse, much like the original, which inludes a mini-poster with the lyrics on it. All the dynamite is in the remaster, as the original production was stellar to begin with. That's my 2 cents on the remaster.
And, then....Paul's Boutique. What more can I say? It is an essential Beastie Boys album. Now, some folks like Licensed to Ill better, or Check Your Head, or whatever... but I like all of them. I don't think many artists sophomoric releases are as good or better than their first, but Paul's Boutique definitely is. And yet it so different than Licensed to Ill, it's hard to imagine a single group doing two entirely diferent styles of albums, and both be equally as good as the other- 5 star indeed.
So, whether you had the original or this is your first time to hear of Paul's Boutique, this is the edition to buy. - Amazon CustomerMust Have, regardless of musical tastePossibly the best rap/early hip hop album ever. I'm not quite sure how to caveat this review, which I nearly never give. But here it goes: I pursue genius in music, regardless of genre. I am a huge Deadhead. John Coltrane's Eqinox is the best jazz single I've ever heard. Then again, Miles Davis's Kind of Blue is my all-time favorite album. But there's the Chili Peppers, Primus, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits (especially Heart of Saturday Night and Closing Time), and on and on. If you share my quirky musical interests and can overlook the Beastie Boys' general perception out there, you are in for a real treat. I had it on CD back in the early '90s. Knew it was exceptional back then. Just got the Lp and am playing vinyl on high end turntable to tube amp to a sweet 2.1 wired speaker system. I'm done selling other than to say get this album.
- You will not regretWill not disappointEveryone should own this album!!
- ProfessorEricThe beastie boys at their best!!This has to be the best album by far that they came out with! I love license to Ill and all the others but this album was a huge part of my teen years! A must have for any b boy fans collection!!
- Peter PeterBusted into the conductor's booth and busted out rhymesBought this album first time in '91. The first time I heard it, by chance I turned on the public radio station and caught the very beginning of High Plains Drifter. I'm thinking to myself...."What are these sounds?" I'd never heard anything like it before...or since. Then the DJ says it's the Beastie Boys new album and I couldn't believe it. This record is not even in the same category as License to Ill. I've been a fan of the Beasties ever since...and I must have played this album hundreds of times to date. Every time I hear it, I get something new off it. Now I'm gonna listen to it again because this recording is noticeably better. Just like the old but crisper, cleaner, bassier everywhere. Things sound more distinct. Worth the price many times over for the true fan of this landmark creation.
- SevenBizzosNot a "must have", but definately an improvement.I consider this one of the greatest albums ever made, and because of that, jumped at the opportunity to purchase this.
I'm still a bit "old fashioned" and bought the CD, and I still play the original CD periodically. So I guess doing this is the best way to notice any improvements. While it's not like night and day, the improvements are noticeable, especially at high volume levels. Are they noticeable enough to shell out $15 on the same CD I already own and have played nearly to death? I'm not 100% sure.
If you're going to buy the CD just to buy it, it's probably not worth it. If you're going to buy it to put into your Alpine and re-terrorize the neighborhood (like you used to), then this is a definate purchase. Both you and the album deserve that. - Cersei SnowSo whacha whacha want?Just plug me in just like I was eddie harris
You're eating crazy cheese like you'd think I'm from paris
You know I get fly you think I get high
