The #2 HB lead is perfect for standardized testing and everyday writing, and I love that I don’t have to constantly sharpen like with traditional pencils.

The lead is medium soft, but does catch a little on paper. They don't smear like regular pencils of this thickness and that may be why they catch a little when writing. In the hand, they are very light and requires more pressure to use. They are easy to use and refill by removing the eraser. These last a good while before needing more lead, but they aren't so expensive that you are sad to loose them at school.
