In the colored modes, and with the lighted side facing the wall (like it's intended) it's about as bright as a night light, but it throws the light around a bedroom or small living room pretty good if most of the walls are bare and white. In the white mode, it's a bit brighter but wouldn't be a great reading lamp. It's amazing how much control it gives over the light colors and patterns, especially if you use the app. Some are saying that the music feature only works with the songs that it comes with, but you can make it sound sensitive to any sounds, not just music played through the app. The only downside is that it's cheaply made, and not very stable. It's all plastic. It wobbles easily in its base, and the sections can come apart if you're not careful picking it up. But if you're gentle with it, it may last a long time. Anyway, for $30, it's hard to complain too much about its quality. But that's why only 5 stars.

If you’re looking for a party lamp this is it! However, I wanted a smart lamp that would provide a nice throw versus using the overhead light in the living room. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think the fact that the lamp lighting area is white and not clear prevents the light from really lighting the space. It’s almost as if I have another ambient light behind my tv just casting a glow, but not truly helping me see. While it isn’t exactly what I wanted I’ll keep it for the vibes.
