- Beth FEasy to useWorks very well, at least 2 hour battery life, throws snow high and far, also good on ice. Easy on the back too! Great!!
- VeryBusyGets the job done!Ordered this in preparation for the winter ... it was delivered 3 days early ... lucky me ... we were hit with a surprise of 5 inches of snow. Cleared a double wide driveway and walkway in 33 minutes with no effort on me. I did order a second battery for backup because after the initial charge and 33 minutes of use the battery died and the recharged battery for the 2nd use only lasted ~12 minutes. I was able to finish the job. I own several Sun Joe products and I am very happy with all of them and the warranty and customer service is outstanding. I have used both.
- JohnnySuper NOT easy to assemble, but easy-enough to remedy.Update: I used the shovel about once or twice and now the battery won’t charge. I’ll reach out about the warranty, hopefully they’ll send me a new battery for free.
2nd Update: I’ve been waiting for over 7 days for customer service to respond and have seen nothing.
As others mentioned before, the cord is much too long to assemble as described in the instruction manual. Here are my steps to assemble:
1. Attach Upper bar to middle bar with the included bolt and fastener.
(side note: attach the Auxiliary handle to the middle bar before completing the assembly. While it's possible to just snap it on afterward, it's much easier to put on before. I had to snap it on after assembling the shovel and it took a decent bit of wiggling and force.)
2. Unscrew the 3 screws holding the lower bar to the base and pull out the lower bar from the plastic base until you can set the middle bar into the correct position within the lower bar.
3. Attach the upper + middle bar to the lower bar using the bolt and fastener
3. insert the lower bar back into the whole in the plastic base and lineup the holes in the metal with the holes in the plastic before replacing the screws removed in step 2.
That's it! It didn't take more than 5 minutes once I figured out the method. Once the base plate was unscrewed, the excess cord length went in without force.
I presume that the cord was at a more acceptable length for assembly, but somewhere in the storage or shipping of the product, the excess cord slid out of the base of the machine. Even so, this is something they should account for in the design of the product.
Otherwise, the machine is easy to use and it throws the snow as expected. It's a total back & time saver. Thanks Snow Joe! - BryanGREAT SHOVEL!!Great shovel! When I opened the box I said to myself, I wasted money on this tiny shovel- wow I was wrong. We had over 6 inches of wet heavy snow, this shovel cleared the snow down to the pavement with ease, it took NO effort. Did the steps also.
Buy this, it's well worth it!!!! - Asukanot as cool as it looks and broke within 8 weeksFirst of all, I'm not clear on why anyone raves about this thing. It basically works ok (when it works). Since it's not a real snow blower, you can't angle which direction the snow goes, which is inconvenient but workable. And it does work relatively well in thick wet snow, which was a pleasant surprise. The problem is, the more thick the snow, the shorter the battery life. Even in ideal conditions and going very conservative with the on-switch, I never got more than 30 minutes out of it. It's also way heavier than you'd think so it's tiring to use. And since it's totally designed to be used right handed, it's difficult to switch hands back and forth to alleviate strain on your right arm (not to mention what it would be like to be actually be left handed working the thing).
Then to top it off, less than 8 weeks after purchasing (of course a few weeks past the Amazon return window), and after only using a handful of times, it just suddenly stopped working. I chatted with tech support to try and solve the problem, and very early on in the process they determined that it just didn't work at all anymore. They said they could send a replacement (still not sure if they meant part or the whole unit?), but that it was currently out of stock, so I'd have to sit tight until it came back in stock. This of course all happened the day before a massive two-day snow storm hits our area. So I said that a down-the-road replacement doesn't help me now and that I was already unsatisfied with the product and wanted a refund. They offered store credit, which of course I also pushed back on since I certainly didn't want another one of these and wasn't too confident in the quality of any of their other products after this experience. Surprisingly, they did immediately offer a total refund by check, but that I'd have to send the unit back before they process the order, although they said they'd send me a return label. And of course the unit is big and bulky and I just threw out the boxes it came in the other day, so now I need to find an appropriate size box somewhere to pack it up and send it back. We'll see if I actually ever get a refund, although the tech support person was very nice and helpful as best they could be given the situation, I guess.
Bottom line is that I thought this thing looked too good to be true, but the plethora of rave reviews caused me to overrule my instincts. I'll do my best to not let that happen again. I'd recommend paying a bit more and investing in a full-blown electric snow blower (that's what I'll be doing, anyway).
