The bag size is generous for the price, and it worked perfectly for my blue death feigning beetles. It looks fantastic in their Australian outback-themed enclosure and adds a nice, realistic touch.
It’s also super easy to use you can just pour it directly into your tank without needing to rinse it first. If you want to rinse it to cut down on dust, you can, but just be aware that you might lose a bit of sand in the process. I personally didn’t find rinsing necessary.
Cleaning is simple too. I just spot-clean it every now and then to remove leftover food or waste, and that’s really all it takes to keep it looking good.
Overall, this sand is high-quality, easy to work with, and an excellent value for the amount you get. - AlexisGreat for beardies!This is the best substrate for bearded dragons since it comes directly from their natural habitat. My guy loves digging in this, and it’s pretty easy to clean. You need several bags to fill a properly-sized enclosure, but it is so so worth it. You don’t need to bother with mixing multiple substrates like you would with regular sand, so it’s super easy to use and set up. It also holds up well, and you won’t find yourself changing it out completely unless your dragon regularly eliminates in the substrate. Your dragon will be so much better off with this stuff!
- KinzukoYou literally cant pick a better substrate for your central Australian reptiles.Bearded dragon loves this stuff- though when i first put him on it he tried kicking a small pebble he was inadvertently kicking around. after he realized it wasn't a bug though he quit trying to eat the substrate and I've not been terribly worried about it. I'm docking a star because this simply isn't enough for even a 40 gallon. if you are wanting to use only Australian sand in your bearded dragons 120 gallon you may need to get at least 2 20lb bags- maybe 3. as far as value- if you are looking for substrate for more than 1 animal you may find better value in play sand + topsoil mix but if you want the best for your beardie or other Australian desert dweller you quite literally cant get better. its nice and rough to help with sheading and promotes natural posture for your lizard and it being sand makes it easy to remove solid waste.
- EgyptUnsure if it will be heated with a lamp.Perfect for bearded dragon. Nice walking for reptiles when wet it does stick to the scales but dry and eventually falls off not good for reptiles that eat the sand. Easy to clean feces. Love the color for her desert theme tank. With one bag it layered the bottom of the tank, which is a 40 gallon wide. For a thicker layer two or three bags is necessary. Poured in with no dust. Dust free.
- AlexisWorth it for Beardies ????I’ve been a bearded dragon mama for about a month now. I was told to just get that terrarium turf at PSP. It’s messy, it leaves an odor and I really wanted to try something else. A product more realistic for his natural habitat. This sand was perfect, as everyone else pretty much shared it is pricey but I think it’s worth it. Bearded dragons are literally native to Australia ???????? I had no idea. My little guy crawled around was curious at first but he nuzzled up in the sand pretty quickly. It looks great, feels like true sand (assuming it is) and I’m excited for him.
