- ????customerHere are some download tipsThis is my 10th year of using this software. I’ve found it to be accurate and somewhat instructive. This is do-it-yourself software. You must know your own tax situation. The software doesn’t know it, only you do.
I had zero problems downloading & installing it on a Windows 11 PC (which has no third-party security software). I was up and running within 5 minutes. I took a quick browse through it. Here are a few download tips:
1. You can access your Activation Code directly from the email you will receive immediately after you place your order …or you can go to the Order under Your Orders and click the button “Go to Your Software Library.” Both methods provide the Activation Code and instructions for “How to Redeem This Item.”
2. I’d suggest copying the Activation Code to a sticky note so you’ll have it ready. Or handwrite it. The code is 5 characters followed by a hypen followed by 5 more characters. You’ll need to enter it twice: once to download the software and once again to activate the software on your device.
3. You’ll be directed to a specific HR Block URL. Go to that URL.
4. You’ll be asked to enter your code. I manually typed in the code, excluding the hyphen. The website automatically enters a hyphen for you.
5. You must fill out a First Name, Last Name, Street, City, State, Zip Code, and Email. Those are all required entries. You won’t be able to advance until you fill out something in each of those fields.
6. Then, you’ll be asked to select your platform: Choose either Windows or MacOS.
7. Click Next. If all of the above was entered correctly, you’ll get a “Your Software is Ready” message. Read the instructions, then click the “Download Software” button.
8. Find the downloaded software on your device. For Windows, it’ll likely be in the Downloads folder. Click to install it on your device. Depending on how your PC is configured, you may have to grant User Account Control, as I did on my PC. If you have third-party security software, I have no idea how that will impact your download.
9. When you type in the code to activate the software on your device, you’ll need to enter the hypen.
10. The software looks the same as it has for the past 9 years I’ve been using it. Be sure to read things and know what you’re agreeing to. In previous years, Block has asked for permission to share all your personal info with whoever they want. I’d suggest thinking 7 times before agreeing to that if that page is included in this year’s software. I didn’t see that page when I flipped through the screens, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
11. Next expected update: January 6, 2026. That date follows the IRS schedule. If the IRS doesn’t have certain forms ready, there’s nothing Block or you can do but wait.

I always see a lot of reviews saying that people can't get the software to download properly. This software has always worked well for me, and I enjoy getting the Cyber Monday discount on it at this time of year. Here are some tips that I use to download the software. I hope this helps others:
1. When I purchase the software, Amazon sends me an email with the activation code and gives me instructions on how to download the software. If you don't get an email like this, you can still go on Amazon directly and get this information. To get your activation code, long into Amazon, go to your orders, and click on the order information for your software purchase. There will be a button in the order details for the Software Library. When you click on this button, it will take you to a page that shows your H&R Block purchase and activation code. There will be a highlighted title that says: How to Redeem This Item. Click on it, and a small window will appear with instructions on where to go for the download. You will need your activation code to download the software, as well as to verify the software after it is downloaded. You will also need it again to download your state forms. You can write down your activation code, or you can find it again in your Software Library on Amazon.
2. I usually purchase and download the software in the beginning of December. I have seen a lot of reviews that say there are errors when trying to download before December. I don't know why this happens, but if you find that the download link doesn't work initially, try again at a later time.
3. Some reviews also say that they try their activation code, and it doesn't work. Sometimes, I have to re-type in my activation code to get it to go through.
4. I always download the software through the Firefox browser, and I have not had any issues. - D.L. MassaBuy this if it's your last resort . . .Not a great add. EZ to read. Software is definitely not the best. Downloaded fine. But . . . Last year the state return didn't work out well, and I had to pay a penalty. Was going to buy another app, but this was the only one that worked with Windows 10, and I haven't switched over yet because 11 has bugs. So, this failed me in a big way, but seems to work well for others.
- DJLDownloaded with no problemsI have been using this software for more than 10 years. I think it does the job and is cheaper than Turbo Tax. I had no problems downloading to Windows 11 using Microsoft Edge and was up and running in 5 minutes. It appears to be displaying correctly (other reviews said there were problems) from my quick review.
