This should get one star. - Peter BDisappointing installationI’m disappointed with this purchase of Winzip30 for use on my new Windows11 computer. Winzip has been around a long time and I thought this was from a reliable company, but my computer started acting strange immediately after installing this software. I did a search and it turns out my problems are a known installation problem with this software. I was able to follow the instructions I found and I think I have it fixed again, but I shouldn’t have had these issues. Detailed problem description:
Installing WinZip can disrupt Windows 11's default file handling and search indexing, causing File Explorer to lose track of folders or display them as missing. Immediate fixes include resetting .zip file associations to Windows Explorer, rebuilding the search index, and checking "Hidden items" in the View menu.
Immediate Solutions to Fix Folder Visibility
• Rebuild the Search Index: Open Control Panel, select Indexing Options, click Advanced, and then Rebuild.
• Unhide Files/Folders: Open File Explorer, click the View tab, and ensure Hidden items is checked.
• Reset ZIP Associations: Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps>Choose defaults by file type (near the bottom) > search for .zip, and set it to Windows Explorer.
• Run System Repairs: Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run sfc /scannow followed by DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (I skipped this system repairs step)
WinZip-Specific Fixes
• Launch in Separate Process: Open File Explorer Options and check "Launch folder windows in a separate process" to prevent third-party app conflicts.
• Refresh Explorer: Press F5 or run ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache to force a refresh of the file cache.
If the issue persists, consider temporarily uninstalling WinZip to confirm if it is the root cause, or check for Windows updates to fix potential system
The software seems to work now that my installation problems are corrected.
