- MichaelGreat little lightweight option with lots of flexibilityAs I write this, I believe I'm not wrong to say that this little light has become semi-legendary as an almost unbelievable value in a lightweight, highly versatile "everything" light.
I initially bought a couple of the Wuben E7 lights, and was impressed with the design and quality. That model is the one that can mount on a headband, to make a headlight. Based on my experience with that product, and this brand, I decided to grab a couple of this G5 model.
It's a very interesting little light -- there's clearly been a lot of thought put into all the features it packs into a very teeny little package, and for SO cheap. I mean, it's 20 bucks. How can I say "no?"
There's so many little things to love. One of the nicest features I enjoy is the simple addition of a wheel-style control to quickly and intuitively adjust brightness. I, for one, can't stand the style of operation where it's `click once to turn on; click three times slowly to increase brightness; click five times really fast and stand on your head to change color...' etc... The G5 isn't completely innocent of having a few of its control features in that vein, but having the main light turn on/off with the simple click of the button, and then being able to adjust the brightness with a wheel -- that's huge.
I really like the magnetic base. That's a very cool and helpful feature. I love that the clip rotates around the body of the light and can tuck into the side of the thing. I love that the light itself is fully rotatable.
Again, the value here is amazing. Get one. Get three. Get ten. Get as many as you need to have around. - Y RashGreat little rugged flashlightI've been using this at work for a couple weeks and I'm very happy. The brightness is very adequate, the compact size makes it very convenient to carry, and it holds a charge for a decent amount of time. It weighs very little, so the magnet supports the light very well. The controls are pretty intuitive, but reading the manual is a good idea of you and to use some of the RGB and flashing features.
Today I accidentally ran it though the wash and dryer because it was still attached to my work pants by the lanyard, and it's still working perfectly.
Really nice and tough little light. - Fuzzy BuddyAmazingly small and powerful, very high quality in form and function.Amazingly small and powerful, well built and it works great!
I first heard about Wuben on Kickstarter and I have backed several of their projects. I can truly say that everything they make is TOP NOTCH, I compare them to Olight, their products are just as high quality but they cost much less. I'm a flashlight nerd, so i have all the top brands and newest tech. This is a very unique light, I can't believe how small it is yet powerful with a LONG lasting battery. I like how the clip swivels so you cab use it in different applications, it's a versatile light that works as a hands free light that you can clip on your clothes or on the bill of a baseball hat or keep it in your pocket and use it as a traditional hand held light. Its so small you don't even know its there. I also like the magnet feature and the ability to change the color of the light! This is my new favorite thing! - William FaulkStepless dimming is a lieThis is a pretty cool flashlight. It's slightly smaller than I expected. It makes it a little hard to hold as a flashlight, but it's really designed to be clipped onto something. I think it does a great job of that.
The case is all metal except for the LED cover and the contact point on the clip, and it feels incredibly sturdy.
There is a solid metal slider that is both an on/off switch and a cover for the USB-C port. It charges via USB-C and works properly with a USB-C charger.
The head genuinely rotates 180° in one axis, and the clip rotates so you can clip to the left or to the right. It would be nice if the head rotated in two axes, but one is still better than almost everything else.
The rest position for the clip pulls it into a groove that actually prevents it from accidentally grabbing something. The magnet on the base is fairly strong.
The RGB LED is kind of silly (when, exactly, does anyone need a magenta flashlight?), but it works.
The control scheme is somewhat complicated and something whose more esoteric modes you're unlikely to remember. From off: click to turn on to the last "normal" mode, double-click to turn on emergency mode, or long-click for battery status. In normal mode: long-click to switch between white and RGB submodes. In white submode, double-click to lock into max brightness. In RGB submode, double-click to flash (~1Hz) current color. In both turbo and flash mode, double-click again to go back to the submode you came from. Emergency mode flashes red three times (~5Hz), pauses a beat, then a second color three times (same frequency), pauses a beat, and repeats. In emergency mode, double-click to cycle the second color between yellow, green, and blue. In any on mode, click to turn off. In the white normal mode, the knob adjusts the brightness, and in RGB normal mode, the knob adjusts the color. The knob doesn't do anything in any other mode, including the single-color flashing mode and the max brightness mode.
The marketing says the brightness is stepless, but that's just not true. There are seven steps. There is a distinct step between the lowest brightness and the next, then they're much closer together, with the final step being almost imperceptible to my eye. I suppose it does quickly ramp and not just jump between the brightnesses, so it's maybe stepless in that sense, but the ramp lasts like a quarter of a second and you can't get it to stay at those in-between brightnesses. It's clearly not what anyone would think when they see a knob and hear "stepless". The knob is actually unnecessary. The same selections could be made with a pair of up and down buttons.
The color rotation is also not stepless. They didn't say it was, but just for the record, it just cycles through red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and magenta. (I feel like orange and yellow might be better described as warm yellow and cool yellow, but maybe that's just my perception.)
The slider is marked with an open lock and a closed lock, which implies to me that the locked position will just not respond to the button or the knob. In reality, it just means "off". It would have been a nice feature to be able to set it how you wanted it and flick it to lock so you didn't accidently moved the controls, but it just doesn't do that. The slider is still a very nice feature even if it's just nicer than a rubber cover for the USB port. - Jordan McLeodPerfect EDC flashlightThis is a great compact light. Surprising brightness for its size and has different RGB light options as well.
I bought this to replace a hat clip light I had that burnt out and am glad I chose this.
I mostly use the clip on my hat or front of my hiking bag, but the magnet has come in handy when working on my car in poor lighting and it has good strength to it.
While it doesn’t focus the beam like some flashlights, it can get bright enough to offset that
I have the RGB set to red when I switch it over so it doesn’t kill my night vision and love that I can adjust the brightness with the wheel on the main light.
I do wish that the RGB brightness could be adjusted as well but that’s not a deal breaker
