- R. RossGreat for Backup LED light, See Test Data AttachedI routinely use backup lighting around the house for repair projects, interior painting, or craft projects that need good strong lighting....as well as when the utility power goes out. Many years ago I bought a pair of photographic light stands with photoflood reflectors that accommodate typical screw-in light bulbs and provide a nice even flood of light on the subject area. They're my go-to lights for nearly any added-light need. In recent years I've switched them over to 1600-Lumen LED bulbs (100-watt-equivalent) that draw just 16 watts. The light stands are particularly good at accommodating light placement for good coverage...their only disadvantage is that one has to plug them in, which often requires the hassle and trip-risk of extension cords draped around the floor, and they need backup power if the utility is down.
WELL...solution at hand. With the little Ecarke Portable Power Supply 200W Inverter with Makita-type battery added to my light stands, my need for extension cords is resolved and they even work when the utility is down. Now I just grab the light stands and inverter/battery when I need added light...so much more convenient than extension cords, and so much better light than typical portable battery-powered lights!
As a test, I fully charged one of my 4 Ahr Makita 21V knockoff batteries to see how long my 16 watt (1600 Lm) LED bulb would last. To do the test, I hooked up a professional-quality ammeter between my battery and the Ecarke Inverter to see the exact amp draw of the Inverter under different conditions including the use of the internal light at its 3 levels. The life can then be easily calculated from the battery Ahr capacity without worrying whether my battery is a good or bad battery. Here are the results interpreted for a good 4 Ahr battery:
Condition Current Runtime on 4 Ahr battery
Inverter off (sleeping) 7 micro amps 65 years
Inverter ON (no load) 0.11 amps 36 hours
Inverter On (light 100%) 0.20 amps 20 hours
Inverter On (light 75%) 0.17 amps 24 hours
Inverter On (light 50%) 0.15 amps 27 hours
Inverter ON (16 W Bulb) 0.93 amps 4.3 hours
Conclusion
First, when the unit is turned off, it draws essentially no current; I would say that it doesn't need to be removed from the battery...but it does need to be turned OFF.
Once the unit is turned ON, it draws a modest current, even with NO loads attached and NO internal light ON. It can be left in this condition for a while, but it can totally drain the battery in a day or so.
The internal light is quite bright and is good for about 24 hours on a 4 Ahr battery...the 3 levels make a small difference.
With the plugged-in 1600-lumen 120-volt LED bulb, the unit drew almost 1 amp, giving around 4 hours of use...a very useful time for many projects. And this can be easily extended by 2x by using a smaller wattage LED bulb.
Bottom Line: Very useful product...highly recommended! - Josh GriffinVery handyThis item is very cool and extremely handy to keep in the truck or trailer. We tested it by plugging in a small 110V LED light, and it powered it without any issues.
- slomobileCharge at home or in vehicleThis works very well. I have no actual Dewalt products, but a few tools that use Dewalt pattern batteries and a few clone batteries. I needed a charger, since none of the tools came with one. This allows me to rapidly charge my batteries at home or in a vehicle. A feature no official charger has as far as I know. Using my laptop 65w USB-C power supply, the state of charge kept going up 1% in less than a minute. The battery did not noticeably change temperature. The charger warmed slightly. It fit snugly on all my batteries. Charged my phone, powered a Starlink. The light is also very convenient. It shines up at about a 45 degree angle which makes a good worklight shining on the thing in front of you.
- EasyIt's reliableAmazing product did exactly as it says I love it very reliable works perfect I can recommend to anyone buy this product especially if your working off grid and have a blockout.
- B. ArnoldSolid. Keeps good voltage. Would buy againReview of 300W Portable Power Inverter Compatible with DeWALT 20V Battery:
Pros:
Solid feel/heft. Has an extruded aluminum anodized housing
109.8v to 110v at full charge, testing with a typical AC test meter
Has two receptacles with a good grip on plugs. They're also not mounted loosely in the housing
USB ports on the inverter, and also the battery adapter
Good fit on Dewalt 1.5AH battery, positive locking
Allows user to use a reliable battery pack. Self contained inverters/battery packs vary in reliability it appears.
Internal cooling fan
10 min test on a 120v 25 watt appliance resulted in no overheating, or perceptible warming of the inverter or battery. I used a 1.5AH Dewalt battery pack. The battery pack showed a .5 volt drop after 10 minutes.
Cons: I couldn't find if this inverter outputs a pure sine wave, or a modified square wave, so I don't know if it's okay for electronics sensitive to waveform.
Notes: The instructions say the inverter has a soft start feature that starts at 110 volts, and climbs to 120 volts. I noticed 109.8v to 110.5v, but no further climb during the 10 minute test. I don't consider that a con. 110v is fine for my use.
When choosing a product, it was a toss-up between an inverter with a battery adapter, or an inverter with internal battery pack. During my reading of info, and reviews of other products, a common theme I noticed with inverters with battery adapters was output at only 85v +/- volts. A common complaint with internal battery pack inverters was battery quality, overheating, and failure. Quite a few inverters (with internal batteries) would not take a charge after a few months. That could be faulty design, or low quality batteries.
In summary, I would buy again. - bGood buy and was usefulThis gadget actually helped me through a winter storm when I lost power. I was able to run my small digital TV during a power outage and charge my cellphone.
I would buy these for friends but you do need the power packs. - JohnnyCapsBright light, indicates status of charge. It's fine. In my case it doesn't fast charge the cellphone although it will charge it. Works well with DeWalt 20V battery.
- Stephen davenportWorksIt works but some have said the c port has issues which I had to fix as one of my phones wouldn't pick up on the c ports unless I used a converter. The c cables would pick up power but the z fold wouldn't detect it unless one threw an converter through said cable.
