- Curtis L.Great first effort from FlydigiHave always been interested in trying a Flydigi controller so I bought the Vader 5s the day it showed up on Amazon. I think its very competitive for its selling price. I also have its major competition the Gamesir G7 Pro Tri-Mode for my Xbox. Both controllers feel great in hand with the G7 feeling smaller overall. The Vader 5S feels near identical to the OEM Microsoft controller. I do personally prefer the rubber grip on the back of the G7 as it feels more comfortable for long sessions. The Vader would be better if it had a more grippy texture IMO. Basically every button and stick feels better to me on the Vader 5s. Now I personally do not like the C and Z remappable buttons on the lower front as they feel awkward to hit while playing. The dpad is worlds better on the Vader even though its just odd looking. I have never owned a controlled with such a raised dpad before. It works just looks odd. Every other button feels superior. Now the Vader 5s uses Hall Effect sticks while the G7 uses TMR sticks. TMR is supposed to last even longer but I haven't enough usage with either controller for any degradation to happen. Also TMR are supposed to feel slightly more accurate but I cant tell a difference. Maybe its the adjustable tension but the Vader 5s feels just as accurate to me who only plays shooters. The cords are both braided and thexsame length. Both are very nice quality. If I had to only keep one of the two I would ultimately keep the Vader 5s. Its $20 cheaper and feels better overall to me. Now this is also based on both controllers being used wired only on Xbox. The G7 does have more flexibility since it can be used wirelessly or wired on PC for only $79.
- PQNear PerfectionPhenomenal budget controller. I've been cycling through controllers for some time trying to find my Goldilocks and this was almost it. It's designed perfectly in every way. Tension rings work well, triggers feel great in locked or analog mode, clicky face buttons and the Dpad is probably the best I've ever seen on a controller. Incredibly responsive and tactile. I've been playing a lot of Helldivers 2 and finding a controller with a good Dpad is everything.
That being said, I am returning it and exchanging it for the Vader 5 Pro in hopes that it will connect properly. This controller has recognition issues with Steam, I suspect because it's so new or because of its official Xbox partnership. I've never encountered a controller that SteamOS couldn't detect so it was wildly disappointing when this failed on that front.
If you're looking for a controller to connect directly to your PC or Xbox, this may be the best controller on the market right now. - XavierAdjustable thumb stick tension is a game changer. The controller is great! I really like the adjustable tension on the thumb sticks. The buttons feel great if you enjoy the clicky feel. The dpad is always up for debate on any controller, I prefer a cross pad and not the floating type that is on this controller, but it gets the job done and honestly feels good when navigating menus or using them during general play. I have tried fighting games with it at all so I cannot speak for how that would feel.
I have a gamesir g7 he which I love also, but for me... When pressing the "A" button, I tend to press it with a slight upward motion which causes the button to rub against the removable face plate which creates a creaking sound and feeling as the button rubs the plastic. I take the cover off and the button is perfect. For this reason alone I swing heavily to the vader 5s.
For the price, give it a shot. There are MUCH worse controllers that cost more. I would definitely recommend this controller. - Christian WilliamsGreat uality for the priceOnly just started using the controller since I received it yesterday and I can confidently say that for the price point it's a solid piece of hardware. It feels solid in my hands and the paddles and extra buttons are easy to access without extra effort on my hands. I havent messed around too much with the external digital modifications to the controller to change the LED brightness and vibration intensity or stick dead zones, but the button mapping on the controller itself was a bit tricky to figure out but once I used the booklet provided it was a matter of messing with it to get the button mapping and profile switching figured out. The buttons and directional pad feel satisfying to press with their clicking. Genuinely one of the better if not the best controllers ive used in a while.
Only reason im giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because there seems to be an issue with the controller that I received. During gameplay the sticks seem to be a bit sticky, in a way that when I use the left thumb stick to move forward, my character will stutter or walk instead of moving at full speed, and when I use the right thumb stick to aim it will go full speed and sporadically stop or slow down, sometimes even continue to go in the direction I was moving it in. Im not sure if this is a hardware issue with my specific controller or if that's something I can tweak out with the digital settings, I'll look into it and update if it turns out to be the case. - JosephMonthly updateThis is the absolute best controller I have ever used. Everything about it is just so perfect. Earlier today I was using this controller to play Dead By Daylight and the first thing I would notice for a non fps game is the fact that I was subconsciously fixing input delay that an official wireless Xbox controller would give. Now, I have played with it wired as well but there is still a massive difference. Everything genuinely felt smoother and the controller made me feel more engaged with what I was playing. It will definitely take me some time getting used to but I would also like to mention something else. Now, I could also go over the numerous of features the controller has to offer.. but, I am sure you already know about this controller or at the very least you have read some other reviews before my own. Instead I will update my review every month and I will update if any problems occur such as bugs, connection issues, and wear of the controller so maybe you can judge the controller on its longetivity. -Febuary 19th
