5.0 out of 5 stars Great all around lens, very sharp for the money
Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2023
I’ve used this lens for around 2 weeks and it’s become a favorite of mine. Manual focusing is a tricky skill but it’s gotten easier over time. I have been using this alongside the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and the Brightin Star lens is sharper and faster (they do get similar results the more you stop them down). The only time I would opt for the Sigma instead is if I need autofocus (I do need to update the firmware as it’s a little unreliable on my R7 right now).

I’ve used several manual lenses on my Canon R7 since there aren’t many options for lenses especially 3rd party so I definitely recommend this one as it has phenomenal optics and you won’t fire a faster lens than this. It’s tricky to nail focus at .95 but when you do, it’s very sharp.

It came recommended to me by some other YouTubers who raved about it and they were t wrong.

It’s perfect for street photography since it’s small. As opposed to most of my lenses, it adapts natively to my Canon since it comes in an RF mount. That really lessens the footprint. It is a little heavy since it’s made of all metal but not having an adapter more than balances things out.

If you’ve never tried a manual lens before but are in the market for a fast, all around solid lens, I’d say get this one over spending over twice as much for the Canon 35mm 1.8. Autofocus is always great but if you don’t shoot moving subjects, I think you’ll find this lens and other manual focus lenses lead to more thoughtful photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great

Great lens on my Lumix GX1. Solid and weighty alternative to my 20mm pancake and 45mm 1.8. Focus ring is nicely dampened and works well with focus peaking and MF assist. Fun wide open for low light or bokeh. Brings me back to my first 35mm Minolta XG7 in terms of slower and thoughtful process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Quality at a Budget Price!
Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2023
I bought this lens for my MFT cameras because I've been happy with another twice as expensive 35mm f0.95 lens which I bought for my Sony E mount APS-C cameras. Oh boy, was I impressed by the quality of this Brightin Star lens! It totally exceeded my expectation in every way. Build quality is top notch with the only exception being the aperture ring not staying in the clicked slots very well (too much play). As to picture quality, I will let the attached pictures do the talking. All shots were taken wide open at f0.95.

Update: Having watched a few reviews of this lens on YouTube where no one mentioned about the excessive play on the aperture ring, I decided to try another copy of this lens. And I now have a copy that is equally good optically, and mechanically perfect as well. I should take one star off for the quality control issue on the aperture ring but the optical quality of this lens is so good and the price is so low. I'd feel like a jerk if I did that. This company deserves a five star rating!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic value
Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2023
I have been using this lens for a week with a Nikon Z50, and so far I am beyond impressed. Of course this camera does not begin to test the resolution as much as a Fuji or even a Canon would. But so far, sharp corner to corner wide open, no coma or flaring to speak of. Nice sun stars stopped down. Excellent focus and aperture rings. Nice contrast, albeit not brilliant. Extremely smooth bokeh. One very strange anomaly: they completely screwed up the aperture numbers - impossible to tell what they correspond to. Perhaps that’s one reason for the very low price…or perhaps one day it will be worth a fortune, like stamps printed with imperfections.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a lens

I can’t praise it enough. Incredibly sharp, beautiful and smooth bokeh. The separation of subject and background is amazing, and at this price it’s a true value.

It’s tough, light enough for an all metal build, and mine came with a plastic lens cap replacement for the metal slide off cap that comes with it as a standard - that was dope as hell

3.0 out of 5 stars Lens is decent for the price but don't expect pinpoint clarity
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2024
Whatever we buy always comes down to value vs cost and need. This lens seems well manufactured and as long as your comfortable with a manual focus lens (and you're not a professional photographer), this lens will suffice.

You're not going to get extreme sharpness with this lens as you would a lens that costs 4x as much or more. At .095, don't expect much. Stop down your aperture to 2.0 and the pictures get sharper throughout the image. For portraits, I think this is a great lens as it is NOT so sharp. We all aren't airbrushed and I think a little softness on our portraits isn't a bad thing.

If you're a hobbyist or just a person with an interchangeable lens camera, this is a great lens for you. If you're a pro or a person who gets joy from magnifying your image 500x and finding CA or distortion, pass on this lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent lens

It is a great lens, but be careful about your sensor size! a 40MP sensor (X-H2) will expose each and every flaw this lens has, though (not many) - which is why i returned mine. On a smaller 24MP sensor (X-T 1,2,3 etc) it will be an AMAZING lens. Great build quality, very sturdy, smooth focus, but wish the aperture ring was a bit more "clicky" as it can be easy to move it.
