5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for portrait work and creative shots

I admit I was slow to jump on the bandwagon for purchasing a 50 mm lens and purchased this to see how often I would use it before making the investment in a brand name lens for my Canon camera. But out of the box worked amazing. They say it is better to invest in good glass than fancy equipment for your photography and I tend to agree. But for the price this lens is well worth the money spent on it and arrived quickly and well padded. Came with everything I needed to put it on my camera and start shooting with no need for anything special added to the mix. No conversion adapter, no special filter required, snapped onto the body of my canon and I was ready to shoot. A little loud in the focusing but using my smart phone was easy to focus in what I wanted and get some truly amazing self portraits with. Prefer to experiment with my own images before I take any new equipment to do a clients work. Am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this is a necessary lens for a beginner photographer to learn more about their art and get some amazing shots with.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!

SO FAR 5/5 STARS!! Will update after more use.

I've been in the photography business for over 12 years, and I had stepped back back in 2020 and sold all my equipment. Well I decided to get back into it again, and of course I've been wanting to get a Canon Nifty Fifty as it was my favorite lens to use for portraits. But as I'm still replacing all the equipment I sold which is a very expensive process (don't recommend selling your equipment when you decide to close your business) haha.. well I saw a video about this brand and I wanted to give this extremely affordable nifty fifty a shot. Initially out of the package I was impressed by the sturdiness, the videos I had watched complained that the body of the lens felt cheap and I didn't experience that at all. It feels like a sturdy lens.
I currently have a EOS T7i (I'm a rebel lover what can I say) and I had seen that some had troubles connecting the lens to the body so I went in expecting to have some problems, but was I shocked to see that immediately the body recognized the lens and worked perfect.
I snapped a few test shots of my dog and cat to see how it compared to some previous work I did with my canon 50mm and WOW.. The quality just from the RAW shots was beautiful.
For the price I would highly recommend this lens. I'll update back after I use it for a engagement shoot I have this weekend and give my truly honest opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Lens for the Price.......

I am a professional photographer and had a failure in one of my high end lenses at the most inopportune time. I sent my "L" lens off to be repaired and needed something to replace it until I could get it back. After a lot of research I just couldn't find anything better for the limited amount of money I could spend. The ratings were good but I just couldn't believe that this would give me the quality I needed. Having no other options I ordered it anyway to fill the need.

What a pleasant surprise. After a minor glitch (my fault, explained below) I found this lens will give me crisp clear focus and colors. It is an excellent lens for those who cannot afford the top of the line lenses that will last forever but take forever to pay for.

This lens is good for probably a year of continual medium to heavy use and then just throw it away and buy another. It is made of plastic and needs tender loving care to hold up for any amount of time but I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of photos you can get from this. If you have a limited budget and need a lens that will get you those low light photos then buy this. Yopu won't be disappointed. Just be careful on banging it around.

Now a little help and the "glitch" I mentioned. When this was delivered I handed the box to an associate and went to a meeting. I got a call that the lens was horrible and the best focus was slightly blurry with a halo around everything. My initial reaction was that "You get what you pay for". Upon my return to the studio I grabbed the lens and put it on a different body and got the same result. It looked like I was shooting through a thin film of Vaseline. Upon closer inspection I found that my associate had removed the protective plastic sheet from the front glass of the lens but not the small one on the back glass. (think of the plastic on the front of a new phone) If you remove both piece of plastic you should get some pretty good photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars "NIFTY-FIFTY" Best Buy!!!

This is by far THE best inexpensive lens in my kit-bag!!! I have two other lenses that are zoom, but this is my only fixed, or "prime" lens as they're called. The fastest also at F1.8. You can blow-out the background with sometimes desired blur (less depth of field), and shot pics in very low light without having to up the ISO. This way you can print pretty big enlargements without graininess. This lens also has 7 aperture blades vs. 5 for the Canon 50mm F1.8. And, at almost half the cost. More aperture blades are desired when the lens is stopped-down to it's smallest setting; being F22 on this lens. It creates a more rounded "iris" or opening which makes for less distortion and chromatic aberration, or ghosting around the edges of the picture. Yes, the body is primarily plastic, and does not feel of high quality; nor is the Canon counterpart. But, it more than makes up for this in the quality of images and it's faster F-stop. I had a Canon F1.8 50mm, and literally wore it out, and at this price I just couldn't pass it up. I'm so delighted with this "Nifty Fifty" as it's called in photo circles. It has the usual M/AF switch on the barrel, and is actually slightly larger than the canon model in size and weight. The MF ring on the front is also a little bigger than Canon's, and makes for easier focus. I have a Yongnuo TT/NW680 flash which is also a great, and inexpensive product vs. the HIGH cost of Canon's flashes. I'm not Canon bashing again, but they do charge a premium for their accessories... Buy this lens now if you can, as many believe it will go waaayyy-up in price once it gains momentum and popularity among photogs! You will not be disappointed in this purchase. PROMISE...
