product comes with a sim-tray push pin, so you can do it all with this product. be mindful that APN will need to be manually updated, and in my case, my phone decided to do an OS update. Post OS update, i needed to re-enter the APN.

No issues. work as soon as all setup were correct. speed was OK. Used it in Osaka, Shin'onsen, and Toyooka, while walking and driving.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't risk your trip
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2024
I've used this brand two times in the past and both times it worked fine. They didn't require any setup and worked from the start as any SIM should. This year however it shows full bars but will not authenticate. To make matters even worse is the only support is via e-mail and takes 24h to get a response. On top of that the response I got was to check apn settings. But he didn't tell me what the apn settings should be. The only links in the email were to unrelated garbage about policies. And an attachment to some random .bin file that I am not going to attempt to open due to the damage that can be done with such files. He also had the audacity to say "let me know if this works" knowing he's using an e-mail address that I can't respond to. And I'm not filling out a freaking form again just to get more useless responses. The website is equally useless with the faq answering the same question more than once and including questions that nobody is asking. You know what question people are asking? "What are the apn settings?" Their response to every problem seems to be "check the apn settings" but the only place that information is available is on the cardboard that ships with the sim. So if you lose that you're SOL because they will protect like some kind of state secret. But wait there's more. Their website does admit to at least two instances of sims not working because of problems on their side. So in conclusion there is a 33% chance the sim won't work, it's likely not your fault, the only support will take a whole day to respond with nothing of value, and you will end up on roaming so your trip doesn't get ruined.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or money, Incorrect and incomplete instructions, had to completely erase phone
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2023
Some instructions say no activation required. Others say activation is required. For me, activation was required. But the activation site didn't work at first and the number required to activate is unclear.

Some instructions say you need to update your APN. Others say just scan a QR code. For me, the QR code seemed to work.

There were no instructions I could find that tell you how to reset your APN once you go back home. So beware, your internet won't work until you figure out how to do that on your phone. For me, my cell phone carrier removed the option to reset my APN, and I didn't want to bother calling them because it's always a pain to deal with them. I ended up doing a factory reset on my phone, after spending an hour on the phone with my cell phone carrier tech support, then spending another hour going to a phone store for a replacement SIM, then had to reload my whole cell phone with many gig's of data that I pay for because we don't have regular internet at home.

Save your time: It could cost a lot more than paying for this SIM card to use their service. Just pick up a card when you land at the airport instead, we never had troubles like this any other time we traveled to Japan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Android APN

As long as you put in the APN as: m-air.jp , everything starts working. Only the name (anything, I put in air) and APN needs to be put in, don't touch anything else. Great speeds 18mbps in Tokyo and Osaka.

Update: I was throttled after 11gb even though I had 5 days left on my 15 day unlimited sim.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok to use - doesn't really work for personal hotspot
Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2024
The eSIM was easy to install (used an iPhone 14 Pro Max), the setup and the APN all were done automatically after scanning the QR code. However, the connection didn't really work too well in the beginning (my Tmobile Softbank roaming showed 4+ bars, while the M-Air (the VMNO this company is using) is either 0-1 bar. This was during my Shinkansen ride up to Aomori from Tokyo.

After arriving to Aomori, I had more time, so I did a reset, and M-Air started to work properly. The speed was ok, not amazing, but 8-20mbps, fast enough for daily normal usage. The personal hotspot option, however, never popped up unless I switch my data from M-Air to my TMobile connection.

I also did try to hook up my iPhone to my laptop via a USB connection, but the ability to connect to the M-Air hotspot never worked for me. I also had a pocket wifi I rented (wife insisted), so I didn't bother trying too much or reach out to the customer service.

Overall, it's simple enough to use, but the hotspot never worked for me and the speed is just ok. In the future, I would likely revert back to using T-Mobile's 5GB free and also continue to rent a hotspot.

4.0 out of 5 stars eSIM disconnects occasionally
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2024
I bought the 15 day eSIM for use on a iPhone 15 Pro in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. For the most part it worked well, but it dropped a few times and required the phone to power on/off to reconnect. The physical sims on other family phones were rock solid. Would buy the physical sims again for sure
