Prepaid in the US is a pain, most providers have all kinds of hidden fees and tricks to get money from you and collect all kind of private information to bother you afterwards. Not with Lyca, it even works with an older AT&T iPhone 4.

Lyca actually the best choice if you call less than 200 minutes per month or when you are just visiting the US temporary.
Minimum top up is $10 and is valid forever as long as you make or receive one call or TXT per 90 days.

It costs 5 cents per minute/text sending AND receiving. There is no data or picture text support when using prepay, just use Wi-Fi for data.
Calling international costs is 1 cent extra per minute for most countries: [...]
Calling is free between Lyca mobile users, even internationally.

* You have to activate it online before you put the SIM in your phone: [...]
* The only thing you have to fill in is ICCID number printed on the SIM, a ZIP code so you get a phone number from that region and an e-mail address, the e-mail address also does not need to be real because they don't ask to confirm it.
* When it is activated insert the SIM and see if you get a signal. You will get a TXT with your new phone number.
* Now you have to add some credits (Refill) using a PIN code, the minimum is $10 you can get it online for example here[...]ID=535&name=Lycamobile-Refill---PIN and use the coupon CCSMR14 to get 10% off. Also here, you don't need to enter a real e-mail address but if you do you also get the PIN code mailed instead of just shown on the screen.
* Dial 611 from your mobile phone and follow the automated prompts to enter the PIN.
* Now you can call, don't forget to use it once in 90 days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for what it is - Cheapest Per Minute Prepay and no monthly or annual minumim to keep your minutes

LycaMobile is based in the UK and web traffic reportedly is routed through the UK, therefore data speeds will be a somewhat slower than most other T-Mobile MVNOs. They exclusively use the T-Mobile network in USA with NO ROAMING available at all - which is why some people are complaining that they get better service with T-Mobile than Lycamobile.
SIM ONLY works with unlocked phones - This SIM will NOT work with T-Mobile phones unless unlocked!

While they do have monthly plans, where this service shines is for spare or low use cellphones.
It would also be a great idea to test the prepay service before going to a monthly plan.
Cards require a $10 payment to activate. Autorenewals are available at $10 and up for trigger levels as low as $1.
Reports are that it is a good idea to keep your balance below $16 to avoid being accidentally upgraded to a monthly plan.

Paygo Rates:2 ¢/minute, 4 ¢ / text, and 6 ¢/ MB (= $60. / gig!) in USA. (Data is rounded up to nearest 200kb per connection.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Lycamobile's Exterimely Inefficient, Illeterate and Indeferent Customer Service!

If you are planning to pick your desired area code, make sure to register your Lycamobile SIM Card online first, pick your own area code before activating the SIM Card, otherwise, it won't let you make any changes to your number.
I purchased a Pre-funded monthly Lycamobile SIM Card, followed the instructions on the SIM Card to activate it on the phone. Since it did not let me pick the area code I wish to pick, I contacted the Lycamobile Customer service and after talking to two people, I was told by both of them that I could register another Lyca Mobile SIM Card online, choose my area code, then call the customer service and they would transfer my credits to the new number on the new SIM Card.
I called them back after following their instruction and registering another SIM Card online, but the customer service representative, who answered the phone, said it would be impossible to transfer the credential to the new Number on the new SIM.
After spending a long time on the phone, a supervisor told me that he could process the request to transfer the credits to the new number and it would be completed within 24 hours and I would hear from someone once it is completed but nothing happened!
I called again and I was told that within 24 hours the area code would be converted to the new area code but nothing happened!
After calling again, the acknowledged that they had misinformed me about it and told me that within 24-48 hours I'd hear from their Headquarter in the UK but after about 2 weeks nothing happened.
When I wanted to file a complaint against Lycamobile at the BBB, I read the reviews and noticed that Lycamobile does not have a good reputation with the BBB either:

4.0 out of 5 stars Great price for decent service

Really cheap paygo rates at .02 per minute talk and .04 per text sent (incoming texts really are free). Data is more complicated, it's .06 per MB, but their minimum charge means that if you leave background data on with tiny data usage here and there, you'll pay more. But otherwise, there's really nothing else this cheap. The most unique part is the lack of an expiration period. Most places have expiration dates from 30 days to a year if you buy a lot of minutes, but Lyca doesn't work that way. They have a 120 day non use expiration period, but so long as you engage in some chargeable activity (making a call, sending a text or using data) once every 120 days, your line stays active. This, like free incoming texts, seems almost too good to be true in the world of pay per unit mobile, so it could change. But for now, it's a uniquely good deal for infrequent users or users with relatively low usage and limited data needs.

I have no issues with voice quality, however, sometimes some lag makes its way into the line, so there can be like a half second between when you say something and when the other caller hears it, this can lead to you inadvertently talking over each other. I haven't noticed this happening often, but it does happen.

Uses TMobile coverage area, this dual sim package has a full size sim and a micosim that pops out if you have a newer smartphone. Lyca isn't a perfect mobile solution, but the price is hard to argue with.
