Needed to gear up my little one for a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where the weather is super volatile and unpredictable, and temperature can range 30+ degrees between highs and lows even over the summer.
This is a great option -- affordable, versatile, and durable. My wife and I have more "adult" gear that need care and maintenance -- our rain jackets use the newer laminates that have to be used and stored w/ caution b/c you dont want that stuff to peel (or else you lose the rain and wind blocking qualities). This one is waterproof nylon. Worked amazing to keep out the rain (it rained a lot, and it was cold rain!), the wind (a great layer to wear on the lake or after getting out of the water), and -- super importantly -- mosquitos can't bite through it!
Also tolerates bug sprays and sunscreens. This is a great material to use for kids over the more expensive laminates and goretex etc.
Only reason I took off one star is that the pockets should REALLY have zippers. Every outdoors grade jacket should have zippered pockets!!!
