1.0 out of 5 stars Would not charge, would not turn on

Tried trouble shooting power issue. Instructions were to disconnect charger, remove battery, restart computer, place battery back in, and attempt to re-charge. Why would I need to do all of that on a brand new laptop. Power light would go on, screen never turned on

3.0 out of 5 stars First Chromebook

My expectations were high on this one. I always heard great things about Chromebooks. To me this is a nice travel computer. It’s not a powerhouse. I’m disappointed I can’t easily edit on this. Finding apps for a Chromebook this size is difficult. Google play doesn’t help. Wish they would should apps only compatible with this device. I’ll probably use this for paperwork at work the price point is low and I won’t be upset if it gets damaged on the truck a year down the road. This won’t be replacing my tablet which I can edit on. I was hoping to use this instead. I can’t even play my favorite game on this. It’s good for simple office work and streaming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works decent, ok speakers, no linux mode ability
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2024
Ok system for users that need something for basic typing, and online work or surfing the internet. Has one USB A, one USB C port which is also for charging, and a TRS/TRRS headset jack. The speakers on this sound decent and loud enough you can sit and listen to comfortably. Solid state drives on these boot fairly fast. This model also was not tocuhscreen capable.
Chromebook are not usually fancy but to use one USBC for charge and not have a second port seems like a poor design. Came with charger and setup guide but no case or anything else.

2.0 out of 5 stars HP has shot itself in the foot. This isn't worth it.
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024
At nearly $700 at time of ordering, I expected to get quite a bit of value out of this laptop, and I have been extremely disappointed. There are $350 laptops that offer just as much -- and in many cases more -- than what this one offers.

What it has:
16 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
i7 Processor

What it is missing:
Fingerprint reader
USB C Power Delivery
USB C Charge acceptance
USB C Thunderbolt
USB C Docking ability
Touch Screen (Which is really funny because I was asked to rate for that specifically)

I'm pretty sure HP could have built this PC for about $150 given the quality of the other materials -- all plastic, not a hint of metal in the body. It looks and feels CHEAP. Like - 'please hand me to a nearby toddler for me to be destroyed because I'm a disposable product' cheap.

The laptop's mouse stopped working within 30 minutes of my first use of the machine. I was able to get it back with a driver update, but HP Image Assistant - a powerful tool meant for checking and updating drivers - doesn't run on this laptop. I had to manually go to the downloads on HP's site (mind you, with NO functioning mouse) to get the update installed.

The warranty is nearly useless, just a year of the bare minimum support for a new model. That's how long HP expects this to last before they want you buying a new one I guess.

Other laptop lines - like the ProBook 440 (there's a G to indicate generation number, higher is newer) - support all the items I listed as missing for a comparable price. Plus they come with a 3 year warranty.

Overall, this laptop leaves me wondering who the target audience for this machine is. It's lacking in both quality of construction and features, and priced like a premium product. If I were able to, I would return this machine in a heartbeat and buy something either cheaper (by hundreds of $) or more capable (at a similar price). This one isn't worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Chromebook for Light Computing
Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024
While I've always had Android (Google) based phones, this is the first Chromebook (Chrome OS - Google) that I've had. My top notes are that this cannot replace my laptop. This is simply due to the fact that I have programs running on Windows that would not be compatible with a chromebook. Not to mention that in terms of hardware, this computer is not meant to handle processor intensive programs, especially if you are someone who has multiple programs running at once. Chromebooks are not the best option for intensive multi-tasking. Then there is the issue with internal storage. 64GB of flash ram basically allows you to install the programs that you want to use, but would be a cause for issue if you wanted to keep media (movies/music) locally, which I do.

But this is a chromebook....so it's not expected to replace your full featured laptop. From that standpoint, this computer hits a lot of marks.

1. Solidly Built and Attractive Design - Considering that mobility is one of the selling points of a chromebook, I don't have any reservations about tossing this in my backpack to bring with me. Feels solid all the way around, including the hinges (where laptops can tend to feel too fragile). I like the powdery white finish with the chromebook badge on the cover. Looks really sharp. The keyboard is satisfying to use. Keys are responsive and have a nice mechanical feel to them.

2. Snappy Performance - Apps/programs load quickly and are responsive. I experienced no lag in using any programs that loaded on myself or that came preloaded. Same with android apps downloaded off the play store. Most included options for rendering to a laptop screen rather than a phone or tablet, and all performed as expected. Internet browsing is a breeze (as it should be). No problems streaming to the computer and the audio from the built in speakers is surprisingly good.

3. Battery Life - This is where the chromebook really excels over the traditional laptop. And talking about this specific computer, much of that can be attributed to the Intel N100 processor. It's a super low consumption (6w at rest) processor that performs admirably for most tasks that a typical user will throw at it. With the screen on, simply streaming golf score updates while at work, I got over 10 hours of use on a single charge. Of course, if you were to be actively using the computer, you'd see less. Point is that the battery life is great and is one of the main advantages over a typical laptop.

Really don't have any negatives to report with this chromebook. From a spec standpoint, all the limitations are known before you buy. If you are looking for something that runs Windows programs, this probably isn't what you want. If you need local storage space for files on your computer, you may want to look for something with an SSD or more internal flash memory. But if you are looking for a lightweight computer that provides long battery life and simply need it for basic computing needs like browsing the internet or doing schoolwork....this is a very good option.
