5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great with Windows and Ubuntu/Linux
Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2020
I have had no issues running this with my work laptop HP Laptop running Windows 10 and my Dell Inspiron 17 running Ubuntu 20.10/Windows 10. Both laptops charge, and all ports seem to work well. In general, the worst part of the USB-C format is the confusing amount of different laptops that seem to implement it in different ways. Not this product's fault; as I said, it works well with Dell and HP while my HP Laptop dock runs with both laptops, but under Ubuntu or Windows 10 on my Dell, it falls short. The HP Dock is a Thunderbolt dock, and my Dell is a Display port marked with a DP; the DP Port on my Dell does charge and allows all ports to work with this dock. I mention it because USB-C gets confusing, and mileage may vary depending on the laptop itself. My Hp is marked as Thunderbolt, and my Dell as Display Port, and this product runs wonderfully with both. I found I could get a 4k Display using the DP port on the back of the dock in Ubuntu, but I found it a little problem some and instead switched to using the two HDMI ports instead. Sometimes 4k would flicker, but that can be my older KVM Switch (1080P KVM). I don't mind the two 1080p screens as the dock makes it so easy to switch computers. I wonder why the HDMI port only seems to pump out 1080P and the display port 4k from my experience. Still, my HP dock didn't do 4k at all, so this dock outperformed it. I have even booted my Dell and HP Laptops with a live USB of MX Linux, and with no configuration, it worked. I just changed the display settings a bit.

So to sum it up.
1) Easy to use - NO Drivers to install!
2) Works across Windows and Linux.
3) Affordable and better than my work HP Thunderbolt dock.
4) Works with USB-C marked PD or Thunderbolt.

Finally, I would like to say the PD port can get confusing another port format for USB-C. At first, I thought it did not work as I plugged in USB-C devices, and it was not recognized. Then I upgraded to a new Samsung phone with USB-C PD charging support, and it charged and was recognized from the PD port on the dock. So the device has to support USB-C PD. As I said, USB-C is confusing. Now, what are you waiting for? Buy this best Dock on Amazon; it is excellent for Windows and, more importantly, great with Linux. If you have Thunderbolt, the big thing you get from a Thunderbolt dock is the quicker data transfer speeds, but you need to know your laptop supports it. For me, I don't care about my work laptop having maximum data transfer speed. As I said, Thunderbolt does work with this also from what I can tell.

1/26/2024 - I am updating this because I also wanted to note that this works great with the Surface Pro 7. The only exception is the built in wired network does not seem to get recognized, but I don't care. I am using WIFI anyway. So Sound, video, and all other devices work perfectly.

I use this on my ThinkPad Yoga for home office. Its solidly built with all the ports I need. Performance is very good. A previous dock station I used had trouble using wireless keyboard and mouse dongles. This Anker unit has no trouble running HDMI, Ethernet, keyboard/mouse, HD camera, and other USB devices simultaneously. It's nice to have an additional USB-C port. Plenty of power is passed through to the laptop. I have had good luck with Anker products previously. It's a bit heavy (as I said well-built with high-power pass-through) so I have a smaller dock for travel where I don't need so many ports. If you need a desktop dock, I recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than those cheapies

I've been using those cheap "dongle" type of docks for a few years, and found they didn't last for more than 3-6 months, with random functionality failures, having to disconnect and reconnect multiple times. Eventually, they would just give up the ghost after being used daily.

This Anker device works much better, and doesn't have any of the same problems as the cheapies. No mismatched colors between monitors, ability to charge devices, and fewer cables connected to the laptop. Would buy again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor reliability and replacing after 11 months
Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2023
I want to like this docking station, but I don't trust it. It began flickering my screen after about three months of use and has progressively gotten worse. I've tried multiple HDMI cables, and I continue to get a randomly flickering screen. It also doesn't allow my computer to go to sleep—unless I manually lock my screen.

Don't even think about touching it, bumping your desk too hard, or even sneezing near it because it'll just turn off, at worst, and flicker the screen, at best. The power cable is plugged all the way (on both ends) and tight.

I can't rely on my external hard drives staying mounted, either and I've resorted to plugging them in directly to the MacBook. Kind of defeats the purpose of all those super-fast USB ports.

Another issue is when you wake the computer with an external mouse (Bluetooth, not plugged in). My keyboard is plugged into the dock and takes a couple of key presses to begin registering keystrokes in the login input. The third key press causes the dock to freeze and requires that I physically reset it with the power button.

And finally, I occasionally get the "USB Accessories Disabled" error on my Mac when I restart it. So I then unplug it and plug it back in.

I've tried this with multiple MacBooks, and they all experience the same issues. Even the sleep issue (it's not system settings). It never moves; I only occasionally plug things in and out of it. This leads me to believe there's something wrong with a circuit board but I purchased it refurbished (from AnkerDirect) and their warranty period is only three months. It has lasted me 11 months and I'm looking for something to replace it.

Disappointing for such a pricey little device.

I missed the fine print that says it only does one screen on Mac's, even though there are two HDMI outputs.

Also has trouble with connecting my USB keyboard so I sometimes have to pull the cable out and back in. I didn't have that trouble before with a cheaper one.

Other than those it's great though!

This docking station is amazing. I appreciate that the documentation came with a USB-C cord. The USB-C cord paired very well with my LG gram. The pairing process of the docking station was very easy and I was able to get set up in no time at all. Anker has proven time and time again to be a reliable brand.

Everything works great. Pull my laptop out of my bag when I get home and connect a single cable from the dock to it and it charges while I can use my external display, keyboard, mouse, and backup external drive. And now I can just keep my laptop charger in my bag. The dock has it's own adaptor.
