5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic laptop for the money
Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024
I bought this laptop to use as a gaming machine, emulating older titles mostly, and of course the usual web browsing and social media. For that, the laptop performs like a dream, no lag. Setup was a breeze, and build quality is excellent. This is the highest spec machine I have ver owned, I've never had 24 gb of ram or so much solid state storage. I will update this review if any problems crop up but I don't anticipate any. Battry life is a solid 6 hours, could be longer if you set things differently than I have them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware battery doesn't hold ANY charge!

Decent laptop for basic work but battery does not hold any battery life. If it's not plugged in, it works for about 15 minutes. Strongly would not recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars It's actually a great laptop

Not much to complain about, other than limited battery time. For my needs that isn't a huge issue. But for someone on the go, it certainly would be. Computer is extremely fast. I use it for designing and running 3D and laser printers and running my social media and website.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok for the price
Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2024
This unit checked many boxes on my criteria, price being one - which I have to keep in mind when reviewing.
It is replacing a 1 star 17 inch SGIN, which was a fall-apart at the seams disaster. This is is in the same ~$350 category.

Pros - it works ok, screen is suitable for stock trading and other online stuff - a little pokey response-wise, but ok. It has a full, firm HDMI port (the SGIN had a mini HDMI which - quickly came loose and had to wiggle it just right to work) 3 usb and 1 usb C.

Cons - echo much of what has been said - The non standard 12v 38w power cord (is the same as the SGIN) is too short and takes up too much space on the power strip as the transformer is part of the plug - and as others noted hard to find except for 3rd party charging solutions.

No ethernet port. Had to buy a $20 usb adapter.

The fan is so loud and variable, it drives me nuts. Its all I can hear when I'm working. I contacted their support - In fairness they offered to replace the unit, but needed me to return mine first, such I'd be without a computer while the return was processed AND I'd have to spend another weekend moving apps and data via marginal LapLink (see my 3 star review of that) There is some info in the jumper sales group that touts the fan as a feature. I think it is part of my next gripe, the battery.

I believe the unsatisfactory battery performance that so many have mentioned here is related to the fan is working too hard keeping a taxed processor cool, in addition to keeping a big screen lit. Its still 2 months new and only lasts about 2 hours on its own.

Still and all, the screws are still holding it together, which is more than I can say for the SGIN. Its ok for 300 bucks. I'll keep you posted if the fan finally dies.

2.0 out of 5 stars For the price, its NOT WORTH IT

Purchased this as my workload always seems to grow, and as such have a need for a dedicated device. Sometimes you need the Alienware 17 R5, but for my latest I needed something that could access web consoles and write email. Enter this laptop.

BLUF: Lightweight and loaded with RAM, for the price-point this would be hard to beat, however does have a few setbacks such as keyboard quality and system device stability. 8/10

Delivery and Unboxing:
Delivery was lackluster, showed up in its own box inside another Amazon box with no padding. I was able to retrieve the laptop without issue. The device mailer the manufacture sends it in is also very basic, but seems to have done its job as it arrived undamaged. 5/10

I plugged the laptop in for 2 hours before powering it on, a good thing to do regardless, and the slip on the inside with the keyboard asked me to do the same. When I powered it on, it was fully charged and went through the standard Windows 11 Home setup.

Screen: 10/10
Screen is larger, good quality and weighs as much as the other half of the laptop. Colors are vivid an bright. Blacks are pretty black, and you can tell the difference between "Black" "Dark grey" "Graphite" and so on. It is also pretty responsive and feels higher quality than expected.
Keyboard: 4/10
Keyboard is the systems biggest drawback. Long key presses, flex, noise with long mechanical feeling clicks that however have a great deal of wobble and wander on the type face. However spacing is good and it feels like a standard keyboard action, if not a noisy flexy one.
Trackpad: 9/10
The trackpad is HUGE! Biggest on any laptop. It is responsive and all known synaptic device shortcuts seem to work. Only downside (preference) is the click feels cheaper, but switches seem to be a light spot anyway
System performance: 8/10
So far I've not found any issues using the laptop as far as performance goes. I've been able to install and configure everything I use on the day-to-day and its taken it in stride- no slowdown. I do recommend getting as much RAM as possible, as you are capped on everything else. Storage speed is good and I notice this only takes about twice as long as my fat Lenovo P73, which is a monster. Gaming sees this run CS:Source and TMNT: Shredders Revenge without issue. I did have the wireless get shut off by Windows overnight for detecting "Driver issues" but a reset of the WIFI fixed whatever that was...
Battery performance: ??/10
The limited use I've had on battery is without issue. I've not had it off long enough to be able to detail life here. I will say the charger is one of the cheapest I've ever seen for a laptop however. Probably the lowest wattage too. I'll be sure to take extra super careful of this charger because of it.

Overall this is a very decent device for the money. I honestly dont know how you would beat it. Is it the best in anything? No. Is it good at everything? Yes. Would I recommend? Yes

Update: I see its cranked in price. For seven fiddy is too much, find something else. Review raiting adjusted for current price
