This printer, luckily, does not have any DRM, and actually uses the Brother "M" style cartridge. In fact, I'm actually using third-party knockoff M-type labels, and they work perfectly well. The labels print nicely; you can see the comparison between my handheld Letratag and this printer in the picture.
The app though... It needs work. It's not too hard to create a label, but every time you add a text box, it actually adds the text "Double click to edit text". You actually have to delete the placeholder text, which isn't hard, but annoying. It also doesn't seem to maintain a connection to the printer; you have to reconnect after every print. On the plus side, it's really easy to change the font, size, and style, and you can even add QR or barcodes. So even with the hassle, it's much easier to create a label than with the LetraTag.
One downside is that this app doesn't run on my laptop. I have an M1 mac, and usually can run iOS apps on it - my Bluetooth thermal printer app runs and prints fine, even though it's iOS only. For whatever reason though, the Vixic "Print Master" app (which confusingly shares an icon with the Phomemo printer app) won't run on my mac.
The printer unit itself is a little chunky, which is perfectly fine for my purposes, but is probably a little less portable than some other printers. It has an inbuilt label-cutter that works quite well. The instructions on powering it are a bit confusing, and make allusions to AAA batteries. However, the model I have is rechargeable.
Anyway, it prints nicely, you can use generic or Brother label cartridges, and the app is really clunky but serviceable. I'd really like it if there were improvements to the app (or even better, if they released an API so I could write my own!) but so far I'm reasonably happy.
