About this item

3X Magnification: The built-in magnifier in the viewer uses a nano-coated glass lens with high light transmittance and true imaging. It can magnify the image 3 times without distortion, blur or loss of details, and the lighting is bright and uniform without color cast.
35mm Slide Viewer: The personal slide viewer is suitable for 35mm positive film negatives and slides and 2X2-inch framed slides. (Please put them in one by one for viewing when using, and cannot put multiple films or slides at the same time)
Easy to use: Dedicated slide slots and film inputs allow you to load and view immediately; the quick eject button removes the slide so you can go to the next slide! (When the slide is stuck, please press and hold the release button and wait for the slide to slide out completely before releasing it)
Super bright backlit light box: The large viewing area uses super bright daylight LED lighting, and the light is gentle and uniform, which can present vivid and clear image details, and the picture is more delicate and vivid, and the film image restoration is high.
Portability: The photo viewer is powered by a DC cable or AA battery. Convenient battery operation allows you to view old slides anywhere. (DC cable and 4AA batteries are provided free of charge)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and effective

There is nothing fancy about this slide/ negative viewer, and that's just what I wanted. I was looking for a backlit lightbox to make it easier to go through my thousands of negatives for a scanning project. This unit does that idea one better by providing 3x magnification, which is a big help with my aging eyes.

In essence, it's a box with a magnifier, an LED backlight, and slots for inserting negative strips or 35mm slides. Nothing mechanical.

The light is powered by batteries (which, amazingly, are supplied) or alternatively with a USB powered cable. Unfortunately, the other end of that cable is not the currently ubiquitous USB-C, but rather a DC jack. Not that there is anything wrong with the jack, but in this day and age, USB-C has become the de facto standard for powering low voltage electronics, and I would guess most of us already have cables galore that we can use, whereas this unit will require its own cable for really no good reason.

The sooner all manufacturers get with the program and use USB-C, the better off we'll all be. I'm not removing a star for that, but this should be considered for the next revision of this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for viewing and sorting photographic slides

I'm one of those people who has held on to his slide collection for decades. I had many of my old slides converted to digital versions for use in PowerPoint presentations, but they just don't have the definition of the original slides. I still do an occasional presentation using my slides and a Kodak slide projector and I enjoy the audience response to the "click" of each slide changing.
This slide viewer makes it easy to organize individual slides for group presentations or even to show selected slides to one other person. The 3x magnification is adequate for those purposes. The slide viewer operates on 4 AA batteries, which are included. That is rare for many products these days. The light can also be powered with a wall plug, which is not included, however. The viewer has the capacity to view developed photo negatives, though I won't be using it for that.
The accompanying instructions are clear and helpful and the viewer comes well-packed in a cardboard box, which is suitable for storing the viewer when not in use. It is hard to find viewers like this in the era of digital photography and smartphones. But I am glad I found it on Amazon. It may even encourage me to dust off my 35mm camera and shoot some more Kodachrome film. Yes, it is still available!

4.0 out of 5 stars Battery option does not work, otherwise perfect

It comes with 4AA batteries (yay!) but my unit won't operate on batteries (boo!). I tried both the batteries it came with and 4 brand new batteries of my own. I carefully placed them in the exact direction listed on the compartment, and also tried several other variations in case the direction arrows were printed wrong. Nothing. But, the unit works perfectly when plugged into an outlet... but that brings up another pain point. The unit doesn't use a common power port size like a USB C, it uses a USB cable with a round power connector. That means you have to use the cable supplied by the manufacturer, but that cable is WAY too short to be practical. The battery terminals have an odd shape, so while I doubt all of them are broken - I have a feeling this is a design flaw that impacts a lot of units. With the battery issue and the stupid short power cable, I have to deduct a star. (Really it should be 2 stars but the rest of the features just work so well and it is priced so low, I just can't fairly rate it less than 4 stars overall.)

If you can get pass the power issue, the unit itself works really well and is thoughtfully designed. The LED light is very bright but not overpowering. The fact that you can use either negatives or slides if a nice extra. The mechanism for ejecting slides into a little tray underneath is also a nice touch if you are going through several.

I also found that if you have the unit powered on without a slide inserted, you can use the bright light to hold slides up to the screen and see the image well enough to quickly sort through slides to find the one(s) you want to put into the viewer. This is MUCH easier than holding the slide up to a light on the ceiling. You also have to insert the slides backwards for the images to appear in the correct orientation. This makes sense though - when you use a projector you normally stand behind it and see an image reflected off a screen and back to you. In this case, you are looking into the "projector" and seeing the image before it is reflected back to you on a screen. It doesn't take long at all to get the hang of it.

The Quality Control on the power issue definitely needs to be addressed. But otherwise, this is a well-designed and well-made machine at a great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good viewer if you have 35mm slides
Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2024
I inherited all of my mother’s 35mm slides. All I had to view them was an old hand held viewer which wasn’t too easy to use. This viewer is great to view them. It is very easy to put them in the back, view them clearly and then pop them out the front. Makes viewing so much easier! It also has another slot for film negatives, that wasn’t as easy to use, although not too bad. It was not as easy to slide them through, sometimes they got stuck but they were easily maneuvered out. I probably wouldn’t use this feature too much anyway because I don’t really use negatives anymore and they are hard to see what is on them.
This viewer can be plugged in or used with AA batteries which they also included! So far I have used it plugged in, but the batteries would be handy if you were not near an outlet.
