I had owned a previous Amazon Fire tablet, maybe the 7 inch from a few years ago. It just sat in a drawer because it was basically useless, very frustrating to use. It was just way too slow, had poor battery life and just didn't do anything great. I thought I would try again with one of the 2024 models, the Fire HD 8. What an awesome surprise! This new model is actually quite nice, awesome in fact. It's slimmer, has a great screen, all of my apps from my previous model were installed automatically, and the tablet is just super fast compared to before. I can watch videos on it just fine, I don't need it for photos so the 2MB camera is OK. I have the 4GB memory and 64GB storage. It's plenty big enough. I am very happy with this and the price was incredible. Even when it's not on sale it's an excellent buy.

The last time I owned a Fire tablet was back in 2018. Back then it was kind of clunky and thick. Now, I find it thin and lightweight. I skipped the case and screen protector this time. I only added a magnetic pop socket which works out pretty well.
I won't compare it to my iPad. That tablet is in its own category. This is an Amazon Fire Tablet and it works out great for an economical tablet. I will admit I miss using it because I can tweak my favorite browsers (Firefox) with extensions and add-ons without any problems; something I can't do with the iOS version. I also like the fact you can add Google play or even use another party and side load various apps. Of course, Amazon's app store has several and the most important one happened to be Musicolet.
The only downside and what hasn't changed is the charging time. It still takes hours. Other than that, it works out to be a great audio player and when on sale, much cheaper and dependable than those MP3 players. Depending on the app chosen, the WAV files or even ALAC files sound great with the Yamaha musicast speaker. (Get the Musicolet app!)
I also suggest spending just a bit more to have the Lockscreen ads removed, it REALLY makes a difference.

I got ad support. it isn't too invasive, only on the lock screen which is fine. the ads come in muted but watch out for hitting that speaker button, the audio will play at almost full volume.
i knocked a star off because there isn't google play support out the box. I was able to side load it onto the device, but that took a bit of effort. Even still, some apps and games i wanted to play still are not compatible on this device.
I also put a 1 tb micro sd card in. you have the option to set it to internal memory or portable memory. I chose internal and that card now lives in the tablet. all apps and other data install directly onto the card. 32gb base is unusable in 2024, so I'm glad theres an option for a micro sd card.
overall, i like this purchase. bought it mainly for its form factor. having a tablet this size is easy to bring around with me and even fits in my hoodie pocket.
