5.0 out of 5 stars Great computer after driver update
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024
I’ve had this computer for probably 2 months now, and it works great. I was worried when I first got it because I bought it to use for gaming and game development and it would hardly run even small 2D games without the mouse buffering. But after some digging, I realized I just needed to update the driver which can be done through GMKTec’s website. After that, it began running very smoothly. I can make 3D models, run my games, use Unity, etc. with no issue now. The fan isn’t very loud imo - just a little louder than my HP laptop. It only kicks on every once in a while, or if I’m opening Unity (but it calms down after the app is actually running).

My only con is that it doesn’t have any speakers, but that’s something I almost certainly should’ve expected. It’s a really great computer for the price and size and easy to set up - it took me through set up with Windows 11 Pro which I already use and took about a day to sync my stuff. You can also change the BIOS if you want to, though I didn’t feel the need to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mini pc for work and travel
Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2024
I got this with the intention of it being a work pc and streaming movies/shows. 32gb of ram and 1tb ssd. This is absolutely perfect for a work pc and running multiple things at once. Boots up incredibly fast with that ssd. And with 32 gb of ram I can run my browser, quickbooks, excel, along with some other work related software all at once with no issues. Super easy to set up. Plugged it in and ran through the normal Windows setup process and it was ready to go. When you receive it, I do recommend updating Windows and the AMD graphics though. Bluetooth and wifi connected instantly and very easy to get going. I feel like most modern laptops now come with less usb ports and it drives me nuts. This pc comes with 4 usb, 1 usb c, 1 hdmi, 1 display port, and 2 ethernet ports. I don't need any more than that. This thing is fantastic for light work and streaming!

I love how small and light weight it is. It's perfect for me to take when I travel and still need to get some work done on the side. While at home I have it connected to my living room tv. Coming home from a long day, I just want to kick back and watch something. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse there in my living room that easily connects to it. Makes it super easy to navigate to what I want to watch and relax until bed. The size of this pc keeps my area very minimal and clean looking too. It's wonderful.

The gaming tag had me curious. I tried running a couple modern games and it struggled a bit. But I got them to work on the lowest possible settings. Those games were pretty fast paced and high graphic games though. If you're running some retro games or games with a slower pace, I'm sure this will work just great for those.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive engineering at a very reasonable price.
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024
The short form: I wanted a small form-factor computer for general work and light-duty gaming. This machine provides it admirably.

The longer form: I chose it because it promised a decent level of gaming performance for the one game I play, World of tanks, at a decent frame-rate without its having a to have a noisy, secondary fan to handle the kinds of heating that the additional performance needs.

What I have, and what I'm writing this review on, is a machine that handles world of tanks with low medium graphics settings at a frame rate of 40-60 fps with a highish ping which fulfills my basic needs, and it can do more if I turn it's graphics settings to low, at which point its frame rate goes to over a hundred-and-ten fps which works to make up for my senior-citizen reaction speeds.

For the general work requirement, it is more than adequate, as in "much more."

I can run multiple applications on multiple desktops and stream video (Amazon, Netflix, etc.) with no problems. Although I am transitioning from Mac to Windows in order to use it, I found its set up was a fairly simple process.

One very pleasant surprise of the thing is just how quiet it is and competent the thing has been. Right now, I'm running several different, none-too demanding apps, and the fan is barely audible. And, even when I run my gaming app, the top of the box has never gotten more than perceptibly, but not uncomfortably, warm to the touch.

The artificial intelligence app built into the operating system is a surprisingly good knowledge-base that greatly extends the power of search engines to answer general knowledge and technical questions. It was particularly useful when the computer started crashing when I played YouTube videos. The suggestions it provided got me back normal function in minutes.

Considering how internet integrated modern operating systems are, I think it is imperative that you buy and install antivirus software as your second act with this or any computer.

    The bottom line

I am perfectly happy with this computer.

I would like a smidgeon of additional graphics power for gaming, but, considering my needs and the price, and after a month of use, I am very satisfied with my purchas, and I would definitely recommend it to someone like a college student or a light-duty gamer who was willing to trade a small amount of graphics power for noise-heat-and-hassle-free operation.

    UPDATE 2:
Welp the newest one works so I suppose it was indeed a qc issue after all. Updated back to 4 stars since this one works. Amazon's return policy saved me so a+ to Amazon for that.
    UPDATE:
So I bought a 2nd one and...it had a hardware malfunction and I had to return it.
The replacement...has the EXACT same hardware error. What are the odds??
I am going to assume that quality control is very poor. I still like the 1st one that works, but after this fiasco with having to return it AGAIN I will not be giving them any more chances. Disappointed.

You know....my expectations were pretty low going into this but I am pleasantly surprised. It feels solid enough, came on with no issues(lots of updates to do though), and as I had hoped, is total overkill for a movie streaming computer. Extremely snappy, even at higher resolutions(2k/4k). Also very quiet. No issues at all so far. If it lasts this way another month or so I will grab a couple more because it seems like a very nice value so far. Also this particular company seems to have better specs for your money(I looked at a bunch of similar models that were anywhere from$20-200 more).
