5.0 out of 5 stars Stream-line looking printer

When I use the scan feature, it is completely silent! It's not the fastest printer, but adequate for how much I print. I was dubious about the liquid ink, but it was easy and did not leak out. Set up was easy. This is a handsome looking printer. I bought a canon (all black), which is the color I wanted, but I got it home and the copy function did not work so I had to return it. Funny thing is that the copy function of the Canon in the store on the same model did not work either when I tested it. So HP it is! Also, I was fairly certain that I needed a top loader to print my 110-pound card stock, and it works great. I didn't want a top loader, but I had to get one, and now I realize how easy it is to grab a piece of paper out of it when I need one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer, MacOS, Eco-Refill,

HP Smart Tank 5101:
Excellent printer. Great on MacBook.
Bought for economical refill cartridges with bottles of ink. Easy to fill.
Never going back to cartridge systems, in home office printers.

Notes on "Draft" quality printing:
"Draft" setting is very quick printing, just ~3 sec/page, (full page of text).
This setting is meant to print out an incredible number of sheets/minute.
However, take note of the "Specialty Paper"(thick) setting, as printing "Draft"(low) quality paper using the "Plain Paper"(cheap plain printer paper) setting leaves some ink areas unsettled and may smudge.
Increasing quality to "Good"(medium), or "Best"(highest quality), adds printing time, only a few sec/page, (full page of text), and will prevent any small smudge areas.
"Draft" is intended where minute smudges are negligible, and large quantity of print-outs are needed in compact office form factor.

Notes on Install:
Super easy. You will figure it out.

Notes on Paper:
Have run everything through it that I have (Cardstock, 75gsm, 200gsm, Linen, Cotton, #10 Envelopes, Avery Sheets, ).
Reliably prints on everything without problem.
Be diligent to set paper type to "Specialty Paper", if your paper is at all different from 75gsm (plain cheap paper).

Notes on Ink usage:
Refillable cartridges. Simple, easy to fill and load.
Prints by Wireless and USB( and USB-C to MacOS ) without weird software add-ons.
HP App is encouraged, but not needed, "HP Utility" will save print presets in MacOS without downloads.

Have printed more than 400 pages B&W, ( full page 12pt, low & med quality )
and ~50 Color (CMY) beefy, ( >30% color/page area ).

B&W down only ~5%,
CMY down only ~3%,

Confident( at this rate ) it will print another
10,000 B&W pages, with B&W ink shipped/included ( K=135mL, ) .
And another
2,000 CMY pages, with all ink shipped/included ( C=50mL, M=50mL, Y=50mL, ) .

Thank you HP, and
always remember to Have A Good Day !

4.0 out of 5 stars It prints
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2024
Needed a printer, bought this because it has ink tanks. Easy start up instructions. I filled the tanks, Installed the print heads but I ruined the color printhead, it is tricky to install, be gentle. The black one was easy. New color print head arrived, I Installed it, and the printer went on with the set up. It prints well enough. I don't like that it only supports 2.4 wifi, and that it has no cassette to load paper into, also, it only loads from the back, and has only manual double sidded printing, and finally, it is mostly geared for windows 10/11. Anyway, it prints well enough, and I can fill tanks individually, so that should be a plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast quiet printer, and it’s cheaper than you realize
Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2024
When you add the cost of a couple of ink refills onto the cost of a cheap printer, it’s not very different than the cost for this unit. And this way, I am protected from a bit of inkflation ????.
I love how easy it is to load paper, and how very quiet it is. The prints are vivid and clear. It’s not the fastest, but how fast does it need to be? It does a very nice job for the money

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp printing - No document feeder (my fault for not reading the specs)
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2024
The print quality is great. The ink tanks are easy to fill. After installing this printer and printing to it, I had a need to scan a multipage document (it's tax time). That's when I discovered a mistake I made. This printer doesn't come with a document feeder for the scanner/copier. Granted, I don't scan and copy a lot, but when I do, it's usually a multi-page document. So now I'll have to scan one page at a time. I purchased this printer to replace an HP 3830 InkJet printer that was experiencing paper loading problems from time to time. The 3830's scanner/copier document feeder had no problem, so I think I'll keep the 3830 around for the sole purpose of using it to scan/copy multi-page documents. I'll make a guess that since I removed the 3830 from HP's Instant Ink program, the 3830 won't function as a scanner/copier without me having to purchase non-Instant Ink cartridges for it. If that's what happens, I'll have to consider my options as a set of ink cartridges for the 3830 cost about half of what I just paid for the 5000 Tank printer. The HP Smart application shows this new printer has 7.5 months of warranty remaining. I contacted HP Customer Support and was told this printer get a 1 year warranty. I had to email my Amazon.com receipt to HP and hopefully they'll adjust the warranty to a year.

3.0 out of 5 stars Setup struggles
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2024
The printer setup guide was fair. The error indicators were inadequate. The installation of the print cartridge was very challenging because you could understand how it was supposed to be seated. Filling the ink tanks went fairly well but I'm not sure how the advertised 2 year ink supply will be judged. I have a 1/2 bottle of black ink remaining. The color ink bottles were emptied on the first fill. The printer doesn't have a choose color, black & white, or greyscale. The test print worked well and printed the color but subsequent prints did not print the color. I thought the option Black & White Only might have be checked checked, but it wasn't. That's when I noticed there was no option to choose color print. It eventually did start printing color but I'm not sure why. There was an error indicator flashing but the corrective measures weren't in the user guide, only what the error indicated. 20 minutes of playing with the cartridges and I finally was able to get them seated properly.
