5.0 out of 5 stars Its a keeper so far

Wanted a firewall between me and the internet that wasn't managed by my internet provider. Also wanted one that I didn't have to have a cloud-based account to access and manage.

So far I am impressed as it seems to give you all the options you need to manage but not overwhelm with too many knobs that might require a person to be a network security specialist to understand.

I have been watching the security logs for a few weeks as somebody supposedly in Amsterdam seems determined to brute force my security DVR on my network. Made me rethink my home network security to see some of the determined hacking attempts going on.

    Pros to me:
Can manage from home network without creating cloud based account through the manufacture. It is there if you want.
Simple to use via app or web based, very decent GUI interface
Good amount of network metrics for knowing whats going on with the network.
Keeps itself updated to latest security releases if you want to allow, manually selectable otherwise.
Throughput seems to be respectable with no stability issues noticed with the unit through the first 2 months of use.

    Cons:
Only a insignificant one for most people in that I wish all ethernet ports were 2.5G instead of one 2.5g and the other 4 being standard 1G.

Compact design with lots of power and features! Amazing speed for home office internet. Lots of functionality for a power user but also easy to use for non-tech person. price is a bit on a premium side, but is is worth it, just like Apple products.
Used Velcro to attached it to the plastic wall.

Got one of these because a customer wanted to have 2 internet providers and I was installing a couple UniFi APs. Wow it worked great! Far easier to use than expected and it even setup easily on my UniFi account so I can manage it remotely. I will be buying lots of these in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good it's almost unbelievable

Now that I've had this router for a few weeks, I wish I would've switched to Ubiquiti years ago. It's hard to believe how good this router is. Let alone for the price it sells at. It has every setting you could possibly need for home networking and really just about everything for corporate use as well. It's extremely fast and responsive when making any changes to settings. My old Netgear router had to reboot every time I changed anything. This one doesn't have to reboot, it just updates goes along with what it was doing. I love that I can access the router remotely by default. But, you can turn that off if you don't want it. It's also easy to manage the Ubiquiti Wi-Fi access points that I have connected. I like the little screen on the front that shows the current number of clients and traffic. As of the time I'm writing this, the router has been up for 29 days without any issues or slowing down of traffic. I had to reboot my old router at least once a week and it would still drop clients randomly. This has been rock solid since install.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent router by Ubiquiti

This appears to work well, and suits my needs. This is a breath of fresh air compared to routers sold in the consumer sector. It gives you a lot more transparency and control of your network than your ordinary Netgear, or Asus router. Keep in mind that this product also requires a wireless access point, and a poe injector if you want it to have wireless functionality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Performance, but Surprised by Lack of Mounting Solution
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2024
I'm not a fan of the all-in-one gateway/switch/AP combo devices as those prevent me from upgrading pieces one at a time as needs change and technology evolves. The Unifi Dream Router and lower-end consumer units are too small for a 2,800 sq. ft. home, while the over-sized and higher-priced rack-mounted Unifi Dream Machines are overkill for my home's needs. Thus, the Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra meets my needs with some room to expand in the future if necessary.

It has enough power to run IDS/IPS on all of my home network traffic and almost all the bells and whistles I could want to configure for my needs. Overall, it's a solid product. It's replacing aging Netgear equipment for a complete Unifi solution, including managed switches and APs. Setup was way faster and easier than the large-scale equipment I deal with at work, that's for sure!

This product is what I expected from Ubiquiti, except for the whole lack of a mounting solution. I'm really disappointed they did not include something as simple as the French Cleat solution they have for the 16-port POE Switch. It's such a clean install! I'm sure they figure most users will not mount it, but for those of us in IT with network closets at home, this is a significant oversight.

The only reason it gets 4 stars is the lack of a mounting solution, as you can tell I am still a bit annoyed. It's a great product for what it is.

I replaced a $700 gaming router with this, and a $130 Ubiquiti Access Point. So after less than $300 I'm getting so much more performance than I was with that $700 router. Amazing that these aren't more popular. So many features, and so easy to setup. This is my #1 recommended router from now on. Or the Dream one for sub $200 and basically the same setup, I just wanted more AP flexibility is why I went this way.
