5.0 out of 5 stars Good monitor for the new Mac Mini M1
Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2021
I bought this monitor to use with my new Mac Mini M1. I had no problem at all pairing it. Literally just connected it to the Mac Mini, turned it on, and it worked.

I use outside speakers (connected to the Mac Mini) instead of the speakers on the monitor. From what I can tell, the monitor's speakers seem functional, but nothing special. I can't figure out how to raise or lower the volume on the monitor. So, I just ignore the monitor's speakers and use my own.

I use this for work. I can't really comment on how it holds up as a gaming monitor. For my purposes, the overall picture quality is fine. Videos look fine on it. It has plenty of room to have multiple applications open at the same time. However, if you're a Mac laptop user who's used to the retina display quality on your MacBook, you'll notice that the text on this monitor isn't quite as crisp and clear as what you're used to with a Mac's retina display. But it's not enough to be a deal breaker. If anything, this monitor is a good placeholder while you save up to buy a fancier monitor.

If I have any criticism it's that I don't know if this monitor has any controls to change the brightness, etc. or how to use those controls if they do exist. I turned it on. It worked. That's about all I know. The monitor came with a DVD of the owner's manual (not very helpful because who still has a DVD drive in this day and age?). Other than a small booklet showing you how to assemble the monitor's base and connect the monitor to a computer or AV system, there wasn't any other instructions on how to use the monitor's controls (if they do exist) or change the settings. I have no idea how to use any of the features like splitting the screen etc. that are mentioned in the sales pitch above.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. It's a great big sturdy monitor with lots of visual landscape for a very cheap price. It's a great deal!

5.0 out of 5 stars great monitor for schoolwork and casual gaming
Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2021
I bought this monitor after trying it out on my brothers gaming PC, and while I can’t tell you whether it would be good or bad for gaming, I can say it’s awesome for doing multitasking— specifically for college. I hook this monitor up to my MacBook with a usb-c to hdmi adapter that also has an extra power slot on it too.

It works very well for having multiple documents up for writing papers, discussion boards, notes, zoom, etc. I honestly have a hard time using my laptop for schoolwork without it now, as it’s just very difficult to navigate without the added space the monitor gives me.

There’s a review saying the monitor sits at a terrible downward angle, this person probably doesn’t understand that the screen can be tilted. When it first comes out of the box, it is packaged and automatically at a very sharp downward angle fresh out of the box. Do not panic, just tilt the screen upwards as it is meant to be adjustable.

Due to the nature of widescreens, any video platform will not fill the screen up. This monitor is meant to be used as a dual monitor, it’s not made for theatrics. Many games I play do fill out the screen and give you that extra viewing angle (like stardew valley or minecraft,) and it looks extremely clean and amazing.

Also just to note, I haven’t really bothered finding the driver that helps resize windows automatically. With a MacBook, you have to manually resize every window and you can’t clip the window to the size and have it automatically resize like a windows user can. I believe there is a free driver on the LG website, it just doesn’t bug me enough to find it.

This also means my Macbook has to be placed to the left of the monitor in order for me to use the MacBook screen as a “second monitor.” If it is not placed to the left, I still have to drag and windows from my MacBook as if the laptop was on my left side. Just a note to keep in mind.
