1.0 out of 5 stars Drops devices constantly.
Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2024
Bought this as an upgrade to an older version. This one didn’t even work for a full 24 hours. Consistently drops devices when it feels like it. Have to keep rebooting to reconnect. Always saying incorrect password to devices previously connected. Not really worth it.

UPDATE: NETGEAR’s customer service makes this purchase even worse. They will give you the run around until the service warranty is expired and will not honor any of the MANY open cases in your file. (You have to open a new case everytime you speak with a new agent.) PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY WITH THEM. I’ve had this item for less than 4 months and it’s the biggest regret!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product but unstable 5Ghz connection
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2024
It was replacing my netgear mesh system that got fried due to PowerSurge. It has excellent strength and coverage. Setup was just like any netgear router. I was not able to update the firmware right off the app/router. I was however able to manually upgrade the firmware to the latest version by downloading the file from their website.

I have a gigabit ethernet, personal cloud and media systems, a NAS, ring cameras, security system and a couple of IOT devices and sensors. Understandably the wired connection gives the maximum speeds and stability. The 2.4Ghz is stable and gives excellent throughput.

I have always recommended Netgear hardware but on the latest devices especially X3000+ models I am seeing issues on the 5Ghz channels. They are highly unreliable and keep dropping the connection. Few times it is connected but shows no internet (the wired and 2.4Ghz would be functioning normal). I tried all the options and combinations to no avail. It's frustrating when connection drops and when it comes back after 1 or 2mins, I will have to reauthenticate my work laptop which is annoying when working on something important. I am eyeing the TP link mesh network they have been improving their hardware and software offerings and good options out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremly nice Router

This replaced an olde C5 (TP Link) router which quit working on "show connected devices" despite phone calls to Tech Support and software updates.
All software works fine on this router, and it has much better connectivity. Using it with a (TP Link) range extender for upstairs TV, and for seed starting house about 60+ feet outside away in a separate structure.
This stuff is good equipment and Tech Support (from TP Link) is great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs internal surge protection
Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2024
This is my second unit and both went down due to stormy weather. The first one went out when there was a lightning strike near by and took out several things within the house. The second got taken out when we had a power flicker due to a passing storm. The severity of the second storm was nothing that I would expect to have seen equipment failure on. It was enough of a loss to cause a need to reset clocks, but nothing else was compromised by the sag in power. Disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best wifi router for the money
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2023
Netgear has a well-earned reputation for reliability and quality. I’ve been using their wired & wifi routers for about 20 years, so when it came time to upgrade my old Netgear Nighthawk to take advantage of the newer internet connectivity standards, this Nighthawk was a no-brainer for my home. It’s ideal for a two adult household with smart tv’s, devices & computers, though if your household is more than a couple “empty nesters”, or has more than 2500 sq ft, I would recommend going with one of the Netgear Orbi mesh router systems (mesh systems “mesh” the 5 & 2.4 speeds to deliver the same speed to all devices). They’re a little more pricey, but they’re scalable to your family needs & you’ll get better coverage in the far corners of your home. I work from home so I need a connection that is super fast & ultra reliable. I get that with the Nighthawk and I find the value for the performance is outstanding.
