This radio has extra emergency notification feature if the radio is registered to get mmsi number. See owners manual. Google getting the number. But, considering benefits for not that much more expense from basic VHF boat radio and fairly easy registration procedures I think it is worth it. With one button anyone can send your position and emergency message if the captain is incapacitated.
Radio seems to be extremely well built and compact. Nice to see current gps coordinates always displayed on radio. Makes it very easy to broadcast current position too.
