5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd best product on the market

The BT functionality is great. I have it connected to my phone playing music while I am on my jetski. I have a cobra handset connected to the port and a set of headphones connected into the hanset.

So 99% of the time I listent to tunes, and I can take phone calls or listen to text messages if required. If anything comes in on channel 16 9 or another triple watch channel, this overrides anything else.

It has a NMEA0183 connection if you want to connect it to a network to receive the position data.

The backlight is very bright which is great.

There is a key combination to change the MMSI which is great.

You can use the charger to charge additional batteries without the radio.

You can't update the firmware.

The reason why I say its second best is it has water proofing issues. A small amount of moisture got inside and it stopped working properly. Apparently other similar models like the SH Hx890 occasionally have the same issue.

The connection to the handset appears fairly waterproof so I am not sure how it happened.

The moisture disappeared after storing in aircon. Then it seemed to work fine, most of the time but would still freeze up. So not reliable enough to use for a safety device. Plus there were stirations in the screen afterwards.

Unfortunately the battery compartment also locked in place after this.

So a great radio but not 100% waterproof. If I left it in aircon after each time perhaps it would have been OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent radio for real marine use
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2020
I've been using this radio for about six months. So far I've been extremely happy with it. So far it's been completely waterproof and even though it has a "burp" feature to clear the speaker I've never needed to use it. Mostly I use it sailing on small boats. I especially like the memory feature that lets me pick the channels I want to cycle through instead of just monitoring everything. It also has "trip watch" that'll let you monitor a chosen channel while also cycling 9 and 16.
I work on the water for a living and this radio made going back to the issued radio extremely frustrating.
The box includes a charger, backup battery holder (6AA) and a DC adaptor plug.
Battery life is about 2-4 days if you aren't transmitting often. Probably a lot shorter for heavy use.
The one downside I would say is the bulky plastic construction makes it feel big and cheap compared to similar handhelds when you first pull it from the box. Those both turned out to be positive though because it fit my hand so we'll and the size helps it float.
This probably isn't the radio for you if you're fifty feet off the water in an air conditioned pilot house. Perfect for someone headed out in a small sailboat.

3.0 out of 5 stars Greate features and not so great quality

The Cobra HH600 is loaded with great features, making it a good choice for those needing an okay handheld marine radio. One standout feature is the waypoint direction functionality, which provides peace of mind if you lose your primary navigation instruments. This feature ensures you always have a backup to guide you back to your destination. The Bluetooth capability for phone calls is useful, allowing you to stay connected without having to carry your phone around on the boat. People said that my voice was very clear over phone calls. You can also play your favorite playlist straight off of your phone. Another valuable feature is the Man Over Board (MOB) button, which is especially handy if you don't have a spotter onboard. This feature allows you to mark the exact location of a person overboard instantly. The Speed Over Ground (SOG), bearing, and distance to waypoint features are very helpful, particularly when I am not in front of the main instruments. However, the GPS functionality does have its drawbacks. It takes a while to initialize and start reading, it also requires a clear line of sight to function properly. This means it won't work inside buildings and can be slow (minutes) to acquire a signal initially. The GPS refreshes every few seconds, which might not be ideal for real-time navigation but is generally sufficient for what i will need in the event of emergency. On the downside, the belt clip leaves much to be desired. The spring is very soft, causing the radio to fall off almost every time I move. To prevent losing the radio, I had to attach the hand strap to my belt. Another area for improvement is the speaker volume, it could be louder. I missed a few communications because it wasn't loud enough to hear over ambient noise of a sailboat. Thankfully, the rewind feature gets handy in these situations, allowing me to replay the last 20 seconds of a message. The weather alarm is very loud though.

The only problem I have is the spare AA battery case does not have the proper or the same contact surface to power up the radio. I've tried calling Cobra and I have had zero success getting anyone to help with this problem

2.0 out of 5 stars Speaker Volume so low it’s not usable while sailing
Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2021
Returned mine.
My previous 10year old Cobra radio gave up the ghost so I happily bought this one since the old one did a great job.
This one arrived and it seemed to do everything as it was supposed to do with only one Major FLAW: the speaker volume is too low.

While sailing I had to keep this thing glued to my ear or I could not hear anything. My teammates had a Standard Horizon and an Icom and I could hear them perfectly well.

Made me sad but getting an Icom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Needs large print display
Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2019
Love the bluetooth to cellphone feature, and that a lapel mic is reasonably priced, but display details (things other than channel number) are tiny letters & numbers which makes you focus on the display rather than the task at hand (bad to do in an emergency). Also the belt clip can come loose. All other VHFs I have owned were nearly permanent once clipped in, but this one has popped out. Since I lost overboard the VHF I owned before, the clip concerns me. Haven't tested water resistance.
