    What can you say about digital paper rolls? Well, they are incredibly small. Much smaller than a calculator paper roll. But…the picture coming out of the Camera is also very tiny, so you won’t use much paper.

    Sitting next to a roll from another brand, this is clearly a smaller roll.

    Before you worry about accuracy here, my measurements were done on random pictures with a set of analog calipers. It's pretty clear when something reaches the .08 mm line vs being right in the middle of the .06 and .08. No digital error involved.

    These rolls measure just a hair under 25mm outer diameter, with an 8mm central hole, and has an 0.08mm thickness -- calculated at 5.5 meters long. This is quite a bit under the stated size of "about 29.5 feet" (about 9 meters).
    Other rolls I've used (including one of those that came with the camera) measure in at 28mm outer diameter with an 8mm central hole and have an 0.07mm thickness -- calculated at 8 meters long.

    The math, for those interested:
    * area of a circle = π*r^2 = π*(d^2)/4
    * area of a circle with two different diameters (inner d, outer D) = π*(D^2 - d^2)/4
    * length = area / thickness = π*(D^2 - d^2)/(4*T)

    Calculations assume semi-uniform thickness, which may not be a good assumption.

    An average picture out of the specific kids camera I was testing comes out to about 104mm long. This varies greatly depending on how good you are at tearing the image (ones that pulled out more than an inch of paper were excluded from the average), but I can't get less than 103mm for well-torn pictures. That means this roll with its (calculated) 5.5 meters should produce (on average) 52 whole pictures -- about 1040 pictures for the 20-roll box, or about $0.02 per printed picture.
    Other rolls with the 8 meter length should produce 76 whole pictures. Costs vary highly, but it should be 1-2 cents per picture.

    So, this roll, despite only looking slightly smaller is made out of thicker paper and thus has only 68% the length of other rolls I've used -- again assuming the thickness is uniform.

    Does the roll length matter in reality? Not really. Over 1000 pictures from a box of this stuff is plenty. After about 200 pictures, the kids will run out of ideas for things to laugh about (yes, I witnessed this). The remaining paper will actually be used for real pictures taken when adults are also taking pictures of things, or the kid thinks something is important (and then remembers they can print a bunch of pictures really quickly). So the whole box is going to last a LONG time. As a person who has many dozens of rolls of 35mm film pulled through cameras (prior to going digital), I find this to be really fun and extremely cheap.

    The paper prints just fine. It'll fade just like all of the other papers (thermal prints are inherently ephemeral), so I'm not worried about that. It doesn't feel gummy, plasticy (for lack of a better term), or anything like that. It tears very similarly to other papers, despite being slightly thicker.

    I'd buy this again when needed. It does the job, it's cheap, and it'll print a lot of pictures.

    This is the cutest! My turned-seven great grandsons absolutely love these little cameras and the simple little thermal pictures they produce. The prints are very sharp and clear, and a roll of paper goes a long way. Fun to give them a toy that promotes so much creativity.
