For a modern AM/FM/SW radio it doesn't get better than this. First they actually INCLUDE the batteries, and AC power cord, so it's ready to play. This is as basic as it gets: you want to listen to AM, FM or SW? You turn it on, tune the station. While it is a proper PLL digital synthesized tuner, there are no presets, SSB, stereo sound, or gimmicks. It does have a clock but no alarm.
That being said, it has superb FM and AM sensitivity, being this is most likely a direct conversion DSP radio, it does do a good job of pulling in local and distant stations. Sound is clear and crisp, not going to shake walls, but it delivers clean audio for both music and voice. The headphone jack supports stereo headphones but sound is mono. Have not listened to SW but can pull in WWV just fine on 10 and 15MHz but not 5MHz, I suspect noise floor here is too high.
If you want a good, modern easy to use AM/FM/SW radio at a low price, this is the ticket. Turn it on, tune and listen. Big controls are indeed friendly for older folks, and big display is easy to read. It is also well packaged and even the user manual is easy to read.
