5.0 out of 5 stars Battery life

I’ve read that the battery last for days. I’ve only used a single pack and it only last about 6 hrs, at most. Going to try 2 batteries to see if it last longer. Will switch to a plug in if battery drains too quick. I’m reading 2 batteries last a month or better.. We will see. When it works, it works very well….
UPDATE!! Battery is doing much better. Jess from their support team was most amazing. She went through my info from the Spot light Cam Pro and realized the wired setting, instead of the battery setting. She showed me where to change the setting, and it doing much better. She knows her products extremely well.
A big shout out to Jess!! Amazing job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Little Video Camera That Does A Great Job

I bought this unit and installed it the next day. It's a hard-wired version, but I see that it also comes with a battery. The camera can be powered by battery or by hard-wired 110 volt AC, and if the battery is selected, it can even be solar powered and battery recharged that way. The solar unit looks too clumsy so I decided to go with either battery or hard wire. Once I had it wired, I tried both power methods via the Ring App on my cell phone, and both methods power the video camera unit quite well, but I selected the hard-wire method anyway, and the battery will be a back-up unit if the power goes out.

The view from this camera is quite good. It's 1080P and it shows my entire driveway and front yard in movie-like quality. It allows me to hear what's going on outside, and I can even talk through the unit, much like a Ring doorbell would. I have two Ring floodlight cameras installed, and this spotlight cam pro cooperates with the other two, that is to say that they are all interactive, and I can control all of them via my cell phone Ring App, from home, or while traveling. The Ring cameras all connect to my Wi-Fi and then to my cell phone, and the cell phone works with the cameras and Wi-Fi system from anywhere in the world. Overall, this is a terrific unit, and very easy to install - especially if the battery power method is selected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel safer now!

Installing this was super easy. (Although I had ordered and tried the Plus version first. It worked for a week and quit. Not sure if that's because of my dual band router and the Plus only working with 2.4 GHz. I returned the Plus and got the Pro.) The Pro works fine with my dual band router. Gives me a feeling of security. And I enjoyed watching the big raccoon that came up on my deck!

Overall I really like the spotlight cam solar. It’s fairly easy to get setup and has a lot of useful features. I pair it with my Ring Doorbell with solar to cover the front and back of my house. The batteries are easy to change and I always have a couple extra fully charged for swapping. My only complaints would be that 1. Sometimes the camera sensitivity isn’t consistent and 2. the solar model only works within a certain temperature range. It’s not mentioned anywhere obvious when purchasing that I could find. Only after I purchased it and used it did I realize it. I live in MN and when the temps got below freezing the solar panel stopped working even on bright and sunny days. I dug around Rings support website and found a section that says the solar panel only works within a certain range to protect the battery. “To protect the lithium-ion battery in device, and for your safety, Ring Quick Release Battery Packs only allow solar to charge in the temperature range 32°F~ 113°F (0°C~45°C).“ That would have been nice to know when buying it. I still like having the solar panel for when it does work (which is 9 months of the year) but wish it worked better when it gets below freezing. I’m still very happy with the camera and solar panel and have no regrets, but I hope they improve the performance of the solar panel/battery to allow charging in a wider range.
UPDATE: after making through the winter I’ve updated my review above. There was about 3 months where I had to switch out the batteries a couple times a month. Not a big deal really. Now that it’s warmed above freezing for awhile, I haven’t had to change the batteries at all for a couple months. So overall I’m very pleased with the solar panels. If they improve the cold weather charging they would be 5 of 5 stars easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars This model with the Solar Panel is the way to go!

I really liked the slim and trim profile of the spot light pro. I needed to added a camera on the front of our home for added coverage and I didn’t want it sick out like the spotlight model. I also wanted it to be waterproof. It took a call to tech support, but I found the spotlight pro battery has an IP65 rating for dust and water which is very good!
In my case, the camera faces north and the solar cell needs to face south. I got the extension cable for the Ring Solar Panel and was able to hide much of the cable in the vinyl siding up to the gutter on the roof. I found an after market gimbal bracket and mounted my solar panel to the gutter over hanging the roof facing south! The Solar Panel is actually pretty well hidden from the ground.
Now my battery is always charged and I am able to use the Spotlight Pro in high definition, sensitive motion detection, and snapshot every minute without draining the battery!!!
So far, almost as good as my Spotlight Pro plug-in 120v Ring Camera (the Spotlight is still the best at watching everything).
I can’t wait for winter to see how well it charges in the low angle sun of a New England winter. Fingers Crossed!
