It is a small, but capable radio. I ordered the ear piece for it and it got lost in the mail, but the replacement arrived yesterday. The radio is a good value for the money.

I had some bad luck with my marine radio on the first go -rounds. Something was not right with the waterproof seal around the battery compartment and the unit stopped working; I wrote review here and sent a message through Retevis customer support. I got prompt feedback with assurances that they wanted to make sure everything was right for me and that they wanted me to be a satisfied customer. I got a new radio sent to me fairly quickly, and follow up messages from the same person at customer support to make sure everything was ok upon arrival. I really appreciated the efforts -- especially because I think the support desk is overseas. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the radio keeps working even after getting wet. Reliability is essential for safety when using gear like this, so I want to make sure that my radio keeps working so that you can be confident yours will too! I will post an update in a couple months because I would love to recommend this product and company based on their great customer service -- too rare these days.

For $60 it's loaded with features, but figuring them out is a chore. I only need it for weather and simple communication. There are 18 icons and 12 menu items. I just need to see the channel and select a weather station. Unless you take the book with you and study it instead of fishing, you won't use all the features. It has no knobs, you have to plod through non-intuitive keystrokes just for squelch and volume control. It's cheap because all the functions are on a chip. It beeps and boops, scans TAGs, has a Scdu thingy, a priority scan, a dual and tri watch function. I don't know anybody who needs this stuff, and if they do, they get a bigger radio. If you can ignore all the silly features, I guess it's okay.

I purchased this to replace to replace a west marine vhs that I couldn’t replace the charger base- used it for half a day racing a small sailboat and it got wet with no issues and I still have 2/3 battery life left. It is easy to hear in loud conditions- I did not transmit with it yet, only used it to hear the race committee. It is waterproof but It doesn’t float well enough to call it a floating radio. Positives - it comes with rechargeable AAA batteries which are easily replaced with multiple ways to recharge in case you lose the charger and it does come with a high voltage wall charger and car charger with a usb- there are warnings not to use these to charge anything else with them. For charging it only says don’t charge more than 8 hours and the light doesn’t change colors when it’s fully charged. Some reviewers mentioned difficulties with the squelch - it is a very intuitive radio, push the volume/squelch button once to adjust the volume (led says VOL) push a sexy time for Squelch and led says SQL.
