I've been using a Kiwi headstrap without a battery pack and was tired of having to have a bulky powerbank in my pocket with a cable running up my shirt after an hour of gameplay so I took a shot on this headstrap.
Comfort:
The padding for the top of the head is plush and very comfortable and the rear grips the back of the head nicely. Not quite as nice as the Kiwi rear piece as the Kiwi has that plush pleather on the back as well as the top, but no issues with discomfort whatsoever.
Battery:
The headstrap came pre-charged to around 75% which was nice, but I topped it up to 100% before starting my session. I plugged it in from the start and began my session. After about an hour, I took off the headset and checked the battery - It had 3/4 lights on (75%). I'd wager you could play for about 4 hours with the headstrap battery and another hour with the headset's built-in battery. That's solid. I will say that as soon as you plug in the headstrap to your Quest, I immediately noticed what can only be described as a high-pitched, electronic "hum." It's a bit distracting, as the hum would increase and decrease in volume seemingly randomly, but after I started getting into my game with low/medium volume, I did not notice it at all. Something else to note is that, unlike other headstraps such as the Elite Strap, you can't plug into the headstrap and charge the headset and strap simultaneously. Instead, the port you charge your Quest through, is also the sole port you charge the strap through. So you have to make sure you are charging your headstrap as well as your Quest independently. A minor inconvenience, but it's worth pointing out if you're used to the Elite Strap.
Conclusion:
All-in-all, I'm impressed with the headstrap and the battery capacity, but the electronic noise could be improved and adding another USB-C port for simultaneous charging would be awesome. I had no issues with comfort and the balance of the headstrap was just right for me. Also, the ratcheting mechanism was reliable and not super loud (a plus for when you're trying not to wake up others in the house). I would definitely recommend this strap to others looking into getting a Quest 3. Much better value than the Elite Strap! Well done, Yarenka.
