5.0 out of 5 stars Works well so far in a Jeep Gladiator. . .

I have a Lexus with built-in Wireless CarPlay, which is very handy when you’re hopping in/out of the car. On long trips, I still plug the device into the USB port to keep it charging since Wireless CarPlay drains an iPhone battery pretty fast, faster than wireless charging can keep up. I wanted the same capability in my Jeep, and this ticks the boxes well for a very reasonable price.

1. The “Delay” - There’s actually two delays. The first type of delay is the time it takes from starting the car to being connected to Wireless CarPlay. On every vehicle I’ve seen/tried Wireless CP on, it always takes several seconds for the system to boot and to connect to the iPhone. The delay in connection with this device is comparable to those cars where it’s built-in, possibly a second or two longer. The second type of delay is the time between pressing a button on-screen, such as pause, and having the iPhone complete the action. Again, even on vehicles with it built-in there is typically a small delay of 1-2 seconds. Some car models are faster than others in this regard, but none are instantaneous. None are as fast as a direct-wired connection. Strangely, this doesn’t slow down the actual interface itself (e.g., swiping left/right between screens), mostly just delays play/pause commands for music and podcasts. The degree of the delay is identical to the delay I had in my Jeep when I was merely connected to the radio via Bluetooth. If I pause the music on screen via Bluetooth, there’s actually about a 2-second delay before the actual music pauses. It’s the same via Wireless CP through this device. This is likely due to this using a combination of Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity in the way that Wireless CarPlay actually works. The heavy lifting/bandwidth items are managed via WiFi connection and the commands, and probably other things, traverse via Bluetooth. At least that’s my suspicion. The delay exists in every Wireless CP implementation I’ve encountered, and nearly every Bluetooth connection, but some cart models are much more delayed than others with Jeep being one of the most pronounced I’ve experienced. Still fully usable and not a deal breaker at all.

Setup is very straightforward. There is no app you need to download. It merely asks you to connect to the device via Bluetooth, and my phone immediately recognized it as a CarPlay device and requested permissions to use Wireless CarPlay. It was less than 30 seconds for the initial setup and once set up, needs no further effort. I also didn’t have to update any firmware.

The device is about the same size as a traditional USB thumb drive, and it comes with a short USB-A to USB-C cable about 3” long and a short USB-C to USB-C cable also about 3” long (not counting plugs). This is the smallest of all the Wireless CP devices I saw on Amazon that had decent reviews.

Lastly, I did not have to make my phone forget/disable Bluetooth to the Jeep directly. They remain paired at this time. I believe the Wireless CP simply supersedes this connection, just as wired CP likely has higher priority than wireless CP (I’ll test that soon just out of curiosity). Of course if you ever needed to turn off wireless CP, all you have to do is unplug the USB cable from this device and it powers down immediately.

Overall, this is performing exactly as hoped for, at least on my Jeep, and this is coming from someone with experience in other vehicles with built-in wireless CP. This is, in my opinion, at least 95% as good if not equivalent. It’s also a very reasonable price if you just want to try it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great in Subaru

Works faster than my wife’s Honda that has the wireless built in. Very quick connection in my opinion. Great price to add wireless to CarPlay. Tip - plug into your computer first and update the firmware before seeing how it works in your car. Very easy setup!

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk! It’s cheaper for a reason - get a CarLinKit
Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2023
So I bought the AutoSky after I had finally gotten a car with wired car play. It came recommended in a top 10 list at around number 5 or 6 and based on a sale price on Amazon for around $50 shipped but clearly that top 10 list was from someone that had never used it.

I’ve got a 2018 Dodge 8.4N UAS radio, nothing fancy. But let me tell you, when it works, it works pretty well.. fast boot and low latency. Latency being how ping between when you tap the CarPlay screen to say start music and the music actually starting. The latency is about half a second give or take.. not bad but noticeable.

It’s when it doesn’t work that you want to beat it with a sledge hammer (and it doesn’t work A LOT). The big problem is on the connection. The unit creates a new WiFi SSID ID the phone connects to along with Bluetooth. The problem comes in where the phone (iPhone 13 Pro Max and also used a 12 pro with same results) start up the car, phone just doesn’t connect.

Ok, simple solution right, just click into Bluetooth, select the CarPlayBox_xxxx entry and connect right? Nope. It will error out and the only solution is to then manually delete the Bluetooth connect from your phone and then reset up the connection.

Ok, no big deal if it’s only occasionally right? Yeah, not so much. 1 out of every 4 connections does this in my experience.

Horrible experience - definitely do not recommend this product.

For those interested, yes this happened with the default firmware, yes I update the firmware - there was no change.

I got a CarLinKit and my experience has been much night and day much better. Roughly the same latency but I haven’t yet experienced the system simply refusing to connect and needing to be deleted and recreated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works really well most of the time

The unit works really well most of the time. Sometimes the unit disconnects randomly or appears to suffer from some kind of interference.
But, when it works it connects really fast .

5.0 out of 5 stars Newer touring Harley owners, MUST HAVE!

I took the chance and boy am I glad I did! Bought the jumper for $10 and this AutoSky for wireless CarPlay, works like a CHARM! $50 and I have wireless CarPlay on my bike! IMPORTANT: If you have your phone on a cell phone mount without dampeners, you’re at risk of permanently damaging your phones camera. With the constant shaking, it messes with the image stabilization in the phone and once that is messed up, that’s all she wrote. You’ll needs new camera. Although it didn’t happen to me, I didn’t want to risk it. So now I keep my phone in my pocket, safe and protected, and wireless CarPlay on the screen!! Great value, and super easy to hook up! I plugged in the jumper and turned the bike on. Went to Bluetooth and connected to AutoSky, nice connected the radio will flash and connect. I turned my bike off and back on, it connected automatically and then had wireless CarPlay on my Harley! That simple. It does take 15-30 seconds to connect; the system has to read the bypass from the jumper, then it connect to the usb and then it will pop up CarPlay.
